our current practice is without the coding system. How to establish a good coding system for both raw material and finished goods in order to keep those so called "the secret recipe"?

Is 6 digits containing alphanumeric suitable? how to make it user friendly as all of the workers seems familiar with the system without coding?

DEar saypipi..

in my company.. we use system coding combination of NUmeric and alphabetc thats contain :
For Raw Material
1. Functional of RM, for example Milk is protein source so Material milk wecode PROT
2. we put code of Supplier for example PROT A (A is code for supplier X)
3. Date of material arrive to our Warehouse, for example July 29 2008 we code
PROT A 080729 ( the code means Raw MAterial milk from supplier X that arrive at 29 July 2008)

For Finish Good we using:

1. origin of material or name of FG for example MK35 (Product from milk)
2. Parameter of Product for spesific identity for example MK35 (35 mean product contain 35% Fat)
3. we put date of manufacturing for example MK35 080729 (The code mean Produk from milk contain 35% fat and produce at 29 July 2008)

The coding contain date.. that's for Traceability system...

Hope can that can help you

Continuing to this question if we have several raw materials such as emulsifiers, liquid and powder flavors, liquid and powder colors, ingredients such as sugar, salt and also the packaging materials how to code them?

Dear mehraj-udct,

As noted previous thread, sooner or later you may have to demonstrate a functional   internal traceability system.

I would hv said yr choice of coding sophistication depends on above aspect plus factors like -

what level of additional worktime and purchasing/usage blunders you are willing to routinely accept.

Plus any potential regulatory problems in the event of shipped product complaints.

Plus the Company Secrecy Policy.

You can fool some of the people ...... (unless yr name is 007 of course).

Rgds / Charles.C

Kind Regards,

Charles.C

Dear AS NUR,

I have question with your inspection because I am not familier with Coding System.

Our company uses the coding system for the packaging raw materials only. Now my manager said me to set the code at the raw materials. Our company produced Instant Coffee Mix and Malted Milk.

According to your instruction,

1. Function of Raw Materials (we use creamer as a raw materials, can I mention it as a protein?)

2. Code of Supplier (it is ok.)

3. Date of Material Arrive (it also ok.)

Thanks you in advance

Su
