Hello ALL

this forum is exactly what i have been looking for currently in a small food company doing the role of QA & NPD, trying for BRC accreditation. I'm involved with a program called fusion and we work with CAFRE college in Loughry Co. Tyrone, Northern Ireland.

As part of my training i am doing the CIEH level 4 food safety management in manufacturing

i am doing my second assignment on pest control, i would like a few pointers on verification methods for pest control?

thanks for any help

Hi TheBigFella

It seems to me that a lot of this stuff is all down to proving competence to the BRC auditor. In my view these are the questions he or she will be asking.

Does your pest control contractor have certification with British Pest Control Association or Irish equivalent?
Do they have proper insurance cover?
Does the technician have the neccesary qualifications?
Do they carry out a minimum of 8 routine visits per year + field biologist audit?
Do they provide protection from rodents, and crawling and flying insects?
Are you present as the technician services your site?
Are all recommended actions carried out?
Do you have written procedures including a site plan, and records of pest activity?
All the above information should be available in your pest controller's on site documentation.
I assume that your premises are already pest proofed.
If you don't have a pest control contractor then you will have to fulfill these requirements from in-house resources.
Section 4.9 of the BRC Standard states what is required for Category 1 certification.
I know this is all basic stuff but I hope it helps.
