Any advice gratefully received.

What is their role, low, medium, high risk? It needs to be suitable and sufficient for the job they are doing. Handling product? Using machinery?

Please provide more details Deb.

Cheers,
Simon

Hello,

Their role could be low or high risk doing repetative tasks such as lifting product/packs on/off lines that require minimal on the job training. Current policy is for training on the specific tasks to be carried out and then supervision by trained personnel, this is not currently recorded on a signed record. The nature of the tasks is that they handle product on the lines but would not be asked to do skilled work such as machinery handling/operation, QC or anything related to completion of records or critical control.

Hope this clarifies.

We have pushed some of the training back on the agency. We supply them with a 2 page "primer" that covers a lot of what Tony listed (Hygiene Rules, Hand Washing, Jewellery and Watches, Dress code, Accident Reporting, Personal Protective Equipment, Allergens) that they must hand out and review with employees they plan to send to us.

We then do a quick review and cover on site information (evacuation, break rooms, bathrooms, first aid) and have have them sign off when they get here to ensure they were given the primer and understand the rules.

We also only use temporary emplyees in post packaging processes (low risk areas) but not everyone has that option.

We have used speialist agencies in the past that have temporary workers on their books already trained in basic food hygiene, health & safety etc. It saves time and helps temps hit the ground running.
