Hi All,

I have just been thrown in at the deep end over the weekend and now have the repsonsibilty of looking after staff working in a Cold Storage facility.

Does anyone have any information on working times in cold storage facilities, rest times and what the employer has to provide.

I am in the process of carrying out a risk assessment as we speak.

Regards

Dejay

Dear Dejay,

I presume by Cold Storage you mean below -18degC ?

Yr post suggests that your facility presently has no guidance SOPs at all ? Truly ?

It is possible that the answer may also depend on the type of goods in the CS ?

No doubt covered by the encyclopedic web of HMSO / H&S (? / Unions in UK.

I await responses with interest though I can remember there hv been general threads on regulations / working conditions in UK factories previously on this forum regarding topics like workroom temperatures ( mostly the opposite problem - heatwaves  ).

Rgds / Charles.C

PS Welcome to the forum! :welcome:

Kind Regards,

Just did a google search, does this help?

http://www.hse.gov.uk/food/chilled.htm

Look like there are some good references which would be worth following up.
