The point being, last week the website said it would be published on April 30th.

Marshall

Not disputing that, was responding to Salt Safey's comment about TSO.

BRC need to pull their fingers out

This is so confusing. I received an email from TSO Bookshop on Tuesday saying that the Interpretation Guide is now available, but when I go to the website to order it still says publication is July 30. I tried emailing them but got no reply. Does anyone know for sure if it's been published?

I ordered the interpretation Guide in the beginning of April since it was to be published April 30.
I received an invoice that it was ordered and would be shipped 30 April, but they did not yet charge my credit card.

Today I saw on the TSO site that the publication date was changed to July 31.
They seem to be having a problem but it would be nice if they could inform the public. By the time it comes out they will be working v.7

I ordered it in March. They charged my credit card and then later credited it back. I guess I have to re-order now. Very frustrating. I'm thankful to NSF for putting on a webinar addressing the Issue 6 revisions. It will help hold me over until the Guide comes out, whenever that is.

Hi all

I also stumbled upon this finding, this is my first time at going for BRC certification and there are 3 facilities I am trying to get this in. I have been working with the Issue 5 standard closely but can I use the issue 5 interpretation to help guide me as issue 6 interpretation has been pushed back.

Thank you,

Niru

Frustration is the exact word. You can certainly use the Issue 5 guidance for those things that are similar to Issue 6. Or can you? Has the guidance changed? I guess we will not know for certain until July.

This is my biggest beef. I too am trying to certify for the first time. It's frustrating enough getting buy in from senior management, even though they want certification to happen. It's frustrating trying to take existing policies and procedures, tweak them to comply with the standard and then train them out to the masses, not knowing if you are actually hitting the nail on the head. It's extremely frustrating that the publisher of the standard can't manage to publish a guide to meeting the intent of the standard at the same time that they publish the standard.

One would think that if the goal of a GFSI standard is to ensure the safety of food, the guidance to implement said standard would have as much thought and precedence as the publication of the standard itself.

Dear All,

Unrelated to the "delay" issue but personally i found that for the very first audit, the use of a preliminary test audit prior to the "real" thing was an enormous help.

I certainly plan on doing that. And it's really the only way to see if your system is "good" or not.

Related to the delay, however, it's like a supplier responding to a request for Letters of Guarantee with " yes, we realize that we promised those to you several months ago, but we still do not have them ready".

Would you accept that answer?

Thumbs up to safefood 360 and board regular George Howlett for running a free seminar on the overview of changes for BRC 6 in Fermoy, Cork, Ireland on the 17th of May. Bit late for some of us (and geographically difficult for others), but no doubt invaluable to all attendees. Might still make it for some of those promised "light refreshments" though!

:off_topic:

Hmm. I've ummed and ahhed on whether to say anything after seeing earlier comments.

I did find the response to my posting the FAQs was sarcastic which is why I reacted as I did and I'm sorry if I offended. In my defence I was 4 weeks before my BRC audit and stressed out.

Not sure why my later comments caused such a response. Yes, they were jokey but directed against BRC; isn't that allowed anymore?

If anyone has a problem with me or any comments, they are free to contact me directly. I'm not always great at remembering to check my messages on here but I've just checked and I've not got any. I'm not sure why it had to be dragged out in public.

Anyway. Sorry Simon, I'm just doing as I criticised others so shall stop...

No worries GMO, you are a great help to members here and I sincerely appreciate all the good work you do. I agree that its better to take disagreements to PM, so that topics stay "on topic".

Thanks,
Simon

It has finally been published!

BRC Global Standard for Food Safety – Interpretation Guideline: Issue 6
This Interpretation Guideline explains the principles behind each requirement of the standard to assist you in effective implementation, so you can obtain certification to issue 6 of the standard.

This Interpretation Guideline also discusses
■ How to prepare for a BRC audit
■ What to expect during the audit
■ What actions are required following an audit to maintain certification
