During the cold and dry winter months, some of our operators hands dry out, crack and sometimes slightly bleed. Does this happen anywhere else and if so, how would this be handled where gloves are not used to cover Band-Aids/plasters? After reading the "Control of Dressings and Plasters" thread I am assuming that they would cover with plasters and be moved to a low risk area?

Is there a reason they can not wear gloves? I would think that would assist in keeping the hands moist.

I was just curious as to how it would be handled where bare hand contact is practiced (this was originally in the "bare hand contact vs glove" thread).

Idk we had gloves, at my last two plants, for food contact.  I'm just mostly against using gloves in food contact applications with the expectation that they are cleaner than hands like some people think they are.  Obviously in cases of blood, food borne illess etc, gloves are an important barrier method in any area of the plant.

We also had the same problem with our operators. Our problem was soap, cause it made hands dry. So we have replaced it for delicate soap-foam. For our operators who work with menthanol and some acids  we have found the  solution in special protective cream which makes like "protective gloves" in their hands. They put them before starting work. This cream has no smell and it absorbs fast.
