Fantasy World Cup Competition (Mystery Prize on Offer)

Best Answer Simon, 20 July 2014 - 10:24 AM

Well at the end of a thoroughly captivating competition the only entrants remaining with a "will to live" are:

Mr I - 89 points
Tony C - 72 points
Jpredmore - 70 points

By sticking with it to the end they all deserve a prize; I must say it was rather complex and with hindsight...blah, blah, blah...

I'm just going to verify (or is it validate) Mr I's score, unless he has it completely wrong I think he is the convincing winner. I will be back shortly to confirm.

Added:

OK I'm back and I have MR I's score at 93. Admittedly I could have miscounted as one needs a degree in such things to compute, however allowing for a degree of uncertainty it was certainly a lot more than 72 and on that basis I declare Mr I the winner of this enthralling competition. Thankfully the next world cup is 4 years away...

The winning scoresheet.

[attachment=5485:Copy of World_Cup_2014_Mr Incogneto.xlsx]

I will be back again in another little while to announce the prize.

Added:

I figured after such a tense and stressful competition you may want to relax with a large strong coffee whilst squeezing on something nice and soft and perhaps a lucky pen for entering competitions. Here are your prizes Mr I...congratulations!  Please send me a PM with your address.

I Had 4!

Kearney, Phillips, McCaw & BOD!!

It's a different game now from the days of Gareth Edwards. He was class in the 70's but sentiment has no place in the 21st Centuary!

Instructions:

On the attached spreadsheet enter a score for every match including last 16, quarter final, semi final, final and 3rd/4th place play off.

Note 1: if you put any draws in the knockout stages you will need to fill in a penalty score (first to five) to make a team progress to the next round.

Note 2: For judging purposes all scores are 90 minutes play (I will ignore extra time goals and of course penalty shoot outs).  For scoring I'm only looking for results and scores in the boxes and not the teams playing in the games.

Submit a copy of your completed spreadsheet by email to (teamatifsqndotcom) by 11 June.

Scoring:

2 points for a correct result

3 bonus points for a correct score

(so maximum possible points per game = 5)

You keep your own score and we can swap and brag as the competition progresses and we'll compile a table at the conclusion to determine the winner.

Winner & Prize:

Winner is the player with top score.

The Prize...it's a mystery...

Questions below please.

attachicon.gifWorld_Cup_2014_Schedule_and_Scoresheet_with_National_Flag_-_KnockOut_Bracket_1_V1.71.xlsx

Ok I have my worst guesses in I hope they are in time.  Sorry I've been really busy and honestly I have no clue.

Simon

Any woman that has had sight of the French Rugby Calendar (google it girls, I promise you its well worth a look! but don't google it in work!) will tell you why rugby players are superior to footballers (soccer , not American)

I have a 2007 one, cost me a fortune, but I'm still on January (Sean Lamont in his shin pads, and not a lot more!) Better than valium any day! Worth every penny.

Oh my.....that was an eyeful...... :yikes:couldn't have it at work....hubby would pout if it was home....but yes can see it would be worth every penny.

Some of you don't seem to be taking this seriously!

My World Cup Dream Team:

Goalkeeper: Joe Hart (England)

Defenders: Philipp Lahm (Germany), Vincent Kompany (Belgium), Patrice Evra (France)

Midfielders: Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal), Steven Gerrard (England), Yaya Toure (Ivory Coast), Arjen Robben (Netherlands)

Forwards: Luis Suarez (Uruguay), Lionel Messi (Argentina), Sergio Aguero (Argentina)

Only 1 Sub: Rooney (England) - can play anywhere equally well

Ooops! No Brazilians! :silly:

Di Maria (ARG) is technically strong... Perhaps a substitute for the 2nd Half. :spoton:

I've got a weird feeling about Portugal.

So do I, but in the negative way. Some players don´t have enough experience to play in this kind of competition  (meaning, limited options).
One of the most important players of our National Team was injured until last week and I don´t believe he recovered for all games of competition.
I believe Portugal will achieve only to 1/8 ... (hope not, but is my feeling)

Rgds.

Got 2 - 0 to Brazil tonight

Can't support Croatia after that Modric blinder for Real Madrid against Manchester United in yet another match won by the referee. Not that I'm bitter or twisted :crybaby:

Hey Rui, with Ronaldo you never know...he is very special.

I think Portugal will feel at home in Brazil, I just have a feeling. :dunno:

I have 1-0 for Brazil on my sheet.

Even though Croatia is my 2nd favorite country in the world (and starting to become my first and my escape country) I have them losing... now not knowing soccer and anything at all really about scores I had 4-1... is 4 an exceptionally high score?

Seems like you haven't been to Thailand, a view out of my office here:

I rent the house for around $800/month which is about a tenth of the price of living in a house with a swimming pool in the UK!

4 - 1 doesn't look too bad at the moment but I'm not sure to which team! maybe the next one to score.

Croatia boss Niko Kovac: "If that's how we start the World Cup, we'd better give it up now and go home. We talk about respect, that wasn't respect, Croatia didn't get any. If that's a penalty, we don't need to play football anymore. Let's play basketball instead, it's a shame."

IMO Neymar should have been sent off but as I said before referees can win matches and for sure they will win a few more.

I'm looking forward to Spain v Netherlands tomorrow (which is a repeat of the last World Cup Final in 2010). This time I fancy the Dutch because I think they will prioritise trying to score rather than inflicting damage on the Spanish players.

We will see!

There are no points for being 'one goal off' I think there should be for 'goal difference' though as I had 2 - 0 !

Looking at my predictions for tonight I'm not feeling too confident  :oops2:

Mexico 1 - 1 Cameroon
Spain  1 - 1 Netherlands
Chile   2 - 0 Australia

That would be a pretty good 2nd game.  1 win vs loss and 1 game of closest by goals scored.  oh I thought we would have been tied but now that I look at it again I'd be up on you one goal because I had 4-1 (off by 1 you'd be off by 2)

I have

Mexico 3 - 1 Cameroon

Spain 5 - 2 Netherlands

Chile 4 - 1 Australia

Like I said.. I don't know anything about soccer but hey you never know maybe Spain will get 5 (has Spain ever gotten 5??? idk)

I think I over favored Hispanic country teams lol  For some reason when I think soccer I think Spain, Mexico, etc.
