I do not have a Dr. Who ringtone on my phone thank you very much!!!

But my galaxy tab lock screen was the front of the TARDIS and when you unlocked it the background was a stretched background of the inside of the TARDIS... so you could say the home screen of my tablet was bigger on the inside HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

My friend that got me hooked on Dr. Who has the TARDIS sound (that weezing sound that gives hope to anyone who hears it) when he gets a txt message.

I actually thought about doing something doctor-who ish but I really haven't gotten around to it.

TBH I want to get the TARDIS and Dalek ice cube trays...  That's where my heart lies.

:roflmao:

:doctor: approved!

Mike they had a reboot around 2004 or so with Christopher Eccleston then after one season he regenerated into David Tennant's doctor.  Tennant was the doctor for about 4 seasons and he regenerated into Matt Smith's doctor... then we had the war doctor who was before Christopher Eccleston with a great story about the time war.  The Christmas special last year had a great story and Matt Smith's doctor (technically the last possible reincarnation for this Time Lord) received a gift from (spoilers) of a new set (?) of regenerations... And this season began staring Peter Capaldi who was one of the characters from a previous episode "The Fires of Pompeii".

So yes.. still running after a long break.

Wow- if I ever  have a Dr Who quiz question- I know where to come for the answer!

I have vague recollections of (I think) Tom Baker as Dr Who at some later point(with a huge long scarf-that became very fashionable at the time) -but I had lost interest after Pertwee (who later-(unfortunately) morphed into the kids tv character Wurzel Gummidge-which probably wasn't the best move for his  acting crediibility!

lol well I only know the new series... you should check it out if you have Netflix.  I didn't like Christopher Eccleston much personally as the Doctor and I didn't like his acting style... though there is at least one here that disagrees with me which is cool... everyone has a favorite doctor.

I do, however, think that David Tennant was an excellent doctor.  Matt Smith wasn't too bad and I really liked the War Doctor who was one of the doctors portrayed in the 50th anniversary special (Matt Smith, David Tennant and John Hurt)

There are some really heart wrenching parts of that special and it shows a lot of the pain of the end of the Time War.  It does have reference to the character Rose from the first season of the reboot however that you wouldn't get if you didn't watch it (especially the last episode of the first season with the Bad Wolf)... but it's not enough that you wouldn't get what is going on.  I actually have a 3D copy of the 50th and it's amazing!

David Tennant shows the pain of the end of the Time War much like John Hurt during the end of the Time War.

By far one of the best monologues that I've ever seen on Dr. Who next to some of the pre-regeneration ones is in the 50th anniversary and it happens when the Doctor (John Hurt) takes the only weapon the Time Lords couldn't use against the Dalek fleet that was destroying their home world.  Only one Time Lord could imagine using a weapon so powerful that the operating system developed it's own AI and could hold judgment on the person attempting to use it.

"Time Lords of Gallifrey, Daleks of Skaro. I serve notice on you all. Too long I have stayed my hand. No more. Today you leave me no choice. Today this war will end. No more. No more."

It's an amazing scene... check it out.

I did not even know there was such a thing until this weekend when I downloaded a ringtone.  (Found a great sight with free ringtones-YAY!)  Was surprised to see they had a Dr. Who Ringtone....which now that I think of it is kind of rude as there was not a star trek ringtone.   With the hard care Dr. Who fans.....thought some of you would have it.

I typically make my own ring tones anyhow... using ringtunes on iPhone... there are similar apps on android.

Right now my phone goes... Ding... in the presence of shapeshifter DNA... or text messages... typically just text messages hahahahaha :roflmao:  (a Dr. Who 50th anniversary joke)

"Tarted"?  Is there an American English version of that word? :roflmao:

Also we haven't taken over Dr. Who.. it's still filmed mostly in the UK, it airs on BBC America, maybe the target audience has changed I can't say for sure because I couldn't stomach watching the old ones... Sorry to everyone who loved those.... I just couldn't handle it.  I watched the first 3 seasons of the original Dr. Who on Netflix and then I gave up.  I mean if you want to watch something completely horrible you could watch "Torchwood" and the K-9 TV show...

"Tarted"?  Is there an American English version of that word? :roflmao:

here you go......

Tart noun (FOOD)

an open pastry case with a filling, usually of something sweet such as fruit: apple/strawberry/custard tart

tart noun (WOMAN)

VERY INFORMAL DISAPPROVING a woman who intentionally wears thetype of clothes and make-up that attract sexual attention in a way that is too obvious

 [C] OLD-FASHIONED SLANG a female prostitute

tart adjective (SOUR)

› (especially of fruit) tasting sour or acidic: You might need some sugar on the rhubarb - it's a bit tart.

So what Charles actually means  is...... they added lots of 'obvious, provocative, female prostitutes, eating sour, acidic jammy desserts to attract sexual attention' the programme- & sent it over to you !!!!!!!!!!-  :roflmao:

HAHAHA  that's pretty funny!  Sorry though the female prostitutes were added to "Torchwood" not Doctor Who... well ok not so much prostitutes but the bisexual lead had a boyfriend... and was into the leading woman character... who was into everyone... and she had a husband... really it was all the adult content they couldn't put into Doctor Who because that's supposed to be a family friendly show.

Dear Mike,

Thks for the expansion. Maybe I should have said “tarted-up” for the USA.

A small sampling for Dr Who devotees (warning -  some of the links below contain expletives)

June, 2010

Is it me or has the BBC Tarted up Doctor Who?

(UK blog)

http://mikodite.word...-up-doctor-who/

--------------------------------------------

August 2014 (UK comments)

It is and was originally children's/ family viewing. What we got earlier was steampunk lesbianism designed as was the choice of the Doctors new accent for the US market.. All it needs now are the equally alien lesbian vampires whose clock work spaceship has crashed into a 17th Century Scottish castle.. and its got all the components for an American adult prime hit. shame its paid for by British license payers..........

I'd never seen Doctor Who because surely it's just a tarted-up children's programme relished by middle-aged geeks.

http://www.heraldsco...-who.1408825832

--------------------------------

September, 2010

So I finished Season 4, and just watched Episode 1 of Season 5. I'm not one for the "They changed it, so it sucks" argument but **************. So much change, it's like they rebooted the entire series. New Doctor, new tarted up companion, new TARDIS, new sonic *******  screw driver? Did everything from the first 4 seasons have to be kicked to the curb?

http://www.escapistm...t-to-Matt-Smith

Regds / Charles.C

PS - must admit i didn't watch too much after I noticed the Sonic Screwdriver.

PPS - Trivia Snippet for Mr.Inc. -

When Russell T. Davies was filming the first series of the revived Doctor Who in 2005, the (Doctor Who) anagram Torchwood was used to label the series tapes so that no information about their contents would leak out. When he was offered the opportunity to spin off a post-watershed series from the Who material, Davies was so fond of the anagram he decided to keep it.

That's pretty cool tbh I'm not the kind of person who notices anagrams... But that is a pretty awesome bit of Doctor Who trivia.

There has been a steampunkish vibe coming out of Doctor who in this current season... and I'm not one who enjoys the new intro video.. it used to be the TARDIS flying through the time vortex... now it's clocks and gears and it's dark... like steampunk.  There has also been one episode with the clockwork villains seen in a previous episode... it was ok not especially great... I rated that episode lower than most.  But looking at the "Doctor Who" show I'm not sure where "Lesbianism" is coming in.  I mean one of the female companions wore short skirts a little but I can't really remember a strong girl with girl scene at all.

Slightly OT, but I don't know anything about Dr. Who (except that scene from Sid & Nancy where Johnny Rotten is all "Exterminate")

Steampunk = Worst kind of punk.  And I've heard some awful punk

I love me some Jules Verne, and I've picked up a few steampunk anthologies, but there wasn't a single piece of good writing in any of 'um.
