Help!

We have become overwhelmed with the information regarding barcodes. We are currently SQF level 2 certified and are a distributor of ground, raw, heat-treated and RTE products to other distributors and restaurants. THese items are sometimes case items and sometimes random (catch) weight items.

We have been contacted by one of our customers (antoher distributor) to begin putting barcodes on our items. We were given two choices. The first is a Interleaved 2 of 5 which our equipment is not capable of producing. The second is a EAN-128. Must we register with GS1 to produce a EAN-128 barcode? If we register at GS1 do they create the bar code with their data driver? How do we upload it to our scales? Will we need to obtain a secondary service to let our customers obtain the information from GS1?

Can anyone enlighten us or provide information on what you are currently using that works for our type of application?

Thanks for the help!!

Gs1 are an association that dish out the barcodes so that no 2 products have same codes. Used in UK too!
