Hello Hazira Not necessarily for the upcoming Audit .

But its always good to have up-to-date standards originals at the time of Audit.

BRC requires the facility to have a hard copy of the standard(s) present during the Audit.

BRC Packaging 5 will be published July 2015, but audits against it start January 1 2016, so you will be safe for your audit coming up.

As a side note, all BRC Standards can be freely downloaded at www.brcbookshop.com. There are several translations, depending on the Standard, that are also freely downloadable. It can be a little tricky to get the translation, notes bleow on how to do it.

Hello John,

I didn't understand that free pdf is the full version of BRC-IoP V.5?

Thanks,

BRC requires the facility to have a hard copy of the standard(s) present during the Audit.

Are you sure this is correct? It appears they may have changed this as standard 1.1.5 now states "The site shall have a genuine, current hard copy OR electronic version of the Standard available."

Let me know, thanks

Hi Hazira,

You will need to register but Issue 5 is available free here http://www.brcbooksh...e-5-uk-free-pdf

A copy of Issue 4 will be current and sufficient until the end of the year: 'All certificates issued against audits carried out prior to 1 January 2016 will be against Issue 4 and will be valid for the period specified on the certificate.'

Regards,

Tony

I believe both are acceptable either way:

Issue 4 1.2.7 The company shall have a current, original copy of the Standard available on site.

Issue 5 1.1.5 The site shall have a genuine, current hard copy or electronic version of the Standard available.

BRC website FAQs:
'2.2 What is defined as a current issue of the Standard as required by clause 1.2.7
An original issue of the Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials Issue 4 must be available on site.
You can purchase your copy of the Standard, which is available in various languages, in print or as a PDF (where usage rules apply). This must not be a photocopy and should be made available to all relevant staff to ensure they understand the Standard’s requirements.'

Regards,

Tony

Just an update, according to today's webinar the use of the free PDF version of Issue 5 is sufficient for fulfilling the requirement so long as it it readily available.

I thought I'd covered that? Issue 5 is relevant from 2016 though.

Please let us know which webinar you are talking about.

Yes, I just wanted everyone to be reassured, the info came directly from the BRC Webinar that was broadcast today. The BRC presenter also mentioned that it would take an extremely difficult auditor to not support the newest iteration of the Issue even before its official implementation.

Thanks, Matt

You can create a free account @ http://www.brcbookshop.com and then choose the scheme you want and download a PDF file, which will be sufficient enough. I conduct audits and implement plans,  and they have not asked for a hardcopy yet. That of course is from my experience, and as we all know each auditor is different :lol2:

Side note, you have to also show that you have conformed to the new scheme, there is a section in the scheme which mentions that "you" as an organization will update internal programs to follow new schemes and are up-to-date. An auditor may ask why wasn't at least a meeting conducted when the new scheme came out to discuss any changes that may need to happen.

Hope that helps!
