Hi

Can anyone gives a guideline for Walmart audit? I'm going to have Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) audit and Supply Chain Security (SCS) audit. Has anyone done this before

Yes very thorough.  They check everything like wages, contracts, right to work, interview large numbers of employees.  They have a new fire safety audit, very hot on that (scuse the pun).  It's not unachievable and you will come out of it with NC's.  A lot of is quite insulting to a professional company, but they have to ask all of the supply chain and not focus where the risks are or it would be unethical of them.

Go with the flow, take the two day's of dirge and you will no doubt pick up one or two real opportunities for improvement along with having to do quarterly fire drills and 6 monthly fire safety refresher training for all employees. Yes that's right!

If you have any specific questions let me know and I will try to assist.

Regards,

Simon

Great!! Thanks a lot Simon!

I realise about the fire safety because the auditor just sent me pre-audit questionnaire (heavily focus on HR) and responsible sourcing of fire safety equipment worksheet which is like fire safety audit tools.

We need to fill in details per department section.

Do you have their standard of CSR and SCS?

Regards

Sutan

Hi Sutan,

If this is regarding food safety then I must share with you that a huge % of WalMart are associated with either Diversey or Ecolab to conduct their food safety audits of ALL their stores, whatever the cadre, on a handheld device showing their results on the website to the country head of food safety. There is a definite checklist that scores there stores and WalMart DOES take this very seriously. These are very frequent in an year.

Anything else is a copyright information, may be I can help you if you get slightly specific.

Cheers!

Hi Sumit

It looks like it is not food safety one. They do accept New Zealand food safety programme and policy.

The coming up audit is more on responsible sourcing and supply chain security.

Sutan

Good Morning Sutan!

Assuming this is more on the Social Compliance side and you are a Quality or Food Safety specialist, make sure your HR Manager and EHS personnel are fully prepared to do the heavy lifting on this one. Far too often they hear the word audit and assume it's a Quality function. I got caught up in this in a past life and it took A LOT of convincing and completion of the actual audit to see that it was far more applicable to them than me.

As Simon stated it is heavy on fair wages, time off, and safe working environment. The one I went through (I don't think it was Wal-Mart) had some questions for Quality, but VERY few.

Good luck!

I just noticed you mentioned Supply Chain Security, so make sure your Procurement staff are also prepared. I'm lucky in my current position to have a team that understands these are not just one person/department's responsibility.

Yes, HR was heavily involved, as were those responsible for employee safety training and records. Food Defense Procedures were looked at. Our auditor was former OSHA--very firm and knowledgeable. He knew his stuff!

HR did a great job having all employee policies and records. He checked hours/overtime, etc. Not just records, either--the plant tour was thorough. Had private interviews with employees.

Here's a tip: Don't bring in lunch without a receipt! They are not allowed. He had us find out exactly how much was spent and paid us back to the penny!!
