Qestion for those who know  about meat regulations

if a company is provincially registered and does a processed meat eg salami chips  can they ship interprovincially ( ie if the meat is processed?)?

what about if it is doing bouillon mixes containing  meat extracts?

'

anyone know answers- i have a friend who owns a small salami shop ie he does salami chips  and he asked me but i am lost..

Hi there,

If the plant is a provincial meat plant (is using a provincial seal on their products) they are not eligible for interprovincial trade. In fact, even if a provincial plant receives a federally inspected and stamped meat product they are not able to ship/distribute it interprovincially.

I have been dealing with similar issues over the last few weeks.

As for the bouillon, my questions would be "is this a meat product? does it have a meat inspection stamp/legend?" If it is a meat product it would be treated the same way, only eligible for distribution within the same province of production.

We have a new Federal Agriculture Minister in Canada and his name is Lawrence MacAulay. His email address is minister_ministre@agr.gc.ca
We brought up the issue of interprovincial trade at a round table session in Ottawa in 2009 and described how it impedes the business of regional players. There is no reason for these barriers to be there other than the fact that government is too disinterested in doing anything t correct it. A flood of e-mails to the Minister asking him to right this wrong is a good place to start.
