I'm looking for an example of a risk assessment for packaging as per clause 3.5.1.1 "The company shall undertake a documented risk assessment of each raw material or group of raw materials including packaging to identify potential risks to product safety, legality and quality.

If I've missed the a previously posted topic on this please direct me to it. However if not please help with providing examples.

This is my first post on these forums.

Thanks

Hi Ricardo,

I suggest you ensure it is Food Grade so (safety) Risk = "negligible"

The other 2 are BRCisms. Presumably it should comply to a specification which covers legality and quality.

PS - Welcome to the Forum ! :welcome:

Kind Regards,

How should I view the next sentence following this statement:

clause 3.5.1.1 "The company shall undertake a documented risk assessment of each raw material or group of raw materials including packaging to identify potential risks to product safety, legality and quality. This shall take into account the potential for:
allergen contamination, foreign-body risks, microbiological contamination, chemical contamination, substitution or fraud
"

Should I ignore the next sentence for packaging components or does the fact that "food grade" packaging components handle the sentence in bold?

Remember, this should relate back to how should one handle a risk assessment for packaging.

Thanks but unfortunately the threads you pointing to has got nothing to do with my query. The threads handle risk assessment of raw material and suppliers. My query is related to packaging components which is a new addition to BRC v7.

Thanks Chris Charles but I read it now twice.

The first link (http://www.ifsqn.com...ier/#entry86732) is dated March 2015 and it's make no mention of packaging

The second link is in 2014 before the new regulation in BRC v7 which I'm looking for an answer.

Hi Ricardo,

(1) Go to 2015 thread (No. 24641)

(2) Go to post 10.

(3) Realize that the ingredients and packaging = raw materials = inputs = risk assessment required.

(4) Go to post 7 (not mandatory but may be useful to read post 7 also)

(5) open 2nd sublink in post 7 to yield thread No.18187

(6) Go to post 7 in thread No.18187

(7) Read post 7 and (optionally) perhaps the earlier posts also.

(8) Use the excel attached in post 7 as a template after slight adjustment of captions/text to accommodate BRC7, eg to allow inclusion of  “packaging”, “fraud” , (perhaps) “legality” (whatever that means)(was already present in BRC6 for which this excel was apparently ok). Choose yr risk criteria for H/M/L. I would anticipate that an appropriately  validatable “Food Grade” packaging specification  should “assure” a low risk category within the context of the columns present (also refer back to post 10's Guidance)

(9) Realize  that the excel as modified can probably be fed back into BRC7 using the procedure of 2014 thread (No. 23611),  eg as per post 7 et seq. (unverified).

Hope that helps.

PS - note that BRC7 is now confirmed to not require a vulnerability assessment for packaging

Hi Ricardo

I have done V7, and I treated y packaging supplier as I would a raw ingredient supplier for both supplier approval AND Vulnerability risk assessment.

I have headings such as BRC(or GFSI)/ BRC Scope Checked /  Checked against BRC Directory/ Migration certificates/ PIGS/ Historic Complaints / Risk (HML)/ Economic Risk (HML)/ Distribution (local / national) etc
