Auditors, with which tools can we count?

Taking place:
15 Jan 2016 03:00 PM - 04:00 PM UK Time
This is a 10.00 AM Eastern US Start

Presenter:
Oscar Rodriguez-Gonzalez, PhD, PAg, CFS, ASQ-CQE, ISSP-SA

Webinar Overview:
Some of the most important functions that an auditor is required to fulfill include planning, collecting evidence, and reporting. These activities require skills and can be acquired with the use of series of tools that can be categorized in two major groups: those that can help the audit process to be more efficient, and those that assist with the investigation. The objective of this webinar is to review this series of tools and their use in conducting food safety audits.

Titilayo: Please Simon, pls can i get a copy of the slides in my mail?
Sherrie: Does anyone else hear a smoke alarm crying out for a new battery?
Simon Timperley: Today's webinar is being recorded. Video and slides distributed by email in 24 hours.
Javier: I have no trouble understanding Oscar's accent.
carlitopas@yahoo.com: Systems thinking is the process of understanding how those things which may be regarded as systems influence one another within a complete entity, or larger system.
 Miguel Gamboa: Yes
Janice Whetstone and Carrell Rains: Not an effective speaker.
YOUSSEF: What is mean bu system thinking?
Esther: Totally agree Oscar, one of my targets during an audit is to make the auditee feel comfortable With the audit as much as possible.
 Martyn Sparks: Thanks Carlitopas
 Jannie: yes, dff
 Lina: Thanks Carlitopas
Andika: indeed, we don't have to force the auditee. *thumbsup*
Jessica: yes ...i hear the smoke detector chirping in the background
Jannie: yes, difficult to understand him clearly
Inés Martinez Bernie: I can hear and see perfect! The accent is not a problem for me.
oneheata: think I now understand what system thinking means :)
Christi: That is one of the things I like about the BRC self audits, it don't let you audit your own department.
Javier: Anyone have a 9 volt battery?
 Simon Timperley: beep
Lina: carlitopas can you give an example of system thinking in real life? So I have a better understanding of what tha definition it really means...Thanks
Sherrie: It must be 3am there, mine always does that at 3am.
YOUSSEF: Simon is it allowable to contact with other attendance?
Christi: I had to walk out into the hall to tell if it was coming through the speakers or the smoke alarm by my door...lol
bob: I've already removed 2 smoke detectors here where I am thinking it was where the beeping was coming from...
mohamed Haja: picture is not clear well
carlitopas: Welcome Lina. Systems thinking is the ability of an individual in the development of procedures and work instructions which should be inter related to all the departments in an organization
Javier: Christi ha!  I'm still looking up to the ceiling.
Andika: I cannot see the interrelationship diagram of system analysis clearly
Janice Whetstone and Carrell Rains: We were looking around our office too!!!!!
 Pilar: lol
Javier: Darn it!  I thought the beep was from my boss's pacemaker!
 Lina: Great thank you Carlitopas!
 Nuraini Ghaifullaho: thanks too Carlitopas
 Christi: Javier - Too funny!
Debbie: Sorry about that chirping sound.  Did not realize I had the chat unmuted!  Bad smoke alarm!
 silvia : all of them
 Frank: Sight
Theophilus Fon : all of them
 Lina: tasting!!!
Janice Whetstone and Carrell Rains: You would learn a lot from hearing what your departments have to say about their documents.
 Frank: Observations!!!!!!!
Lina: hahahaha but the question was not related to auditing but in general that is why tatsting I belive will give more information.
Frank: Try doing and audit blindfolded!!
Esther: I would say careful with Sight as in an audit day everything has been well arranged for the audit
Patricia: People can tell you things that are not real
Filippo: good observation says a lot
carlitopas: To conduct a food safety Audit, we need the 5 senses depending what to Audit
YOUSSEF: Hearing answers then investigate records and compare
Martyn Sparks: Good point Simon !
Paul: I often come across documents that say they have this or that system inplace but when I talk to the peopple I find that they don't even know about the document much less follow it.
Martyn Sparks: Good Point Simon !
alyssa: part of signt is not only stationary equipment but personnel behaviors.  true statement Paul, unfortunately.
Andika: Can we use the finding from smelling something? How can we manage the evidence?
sanjeev kumar: sight is first hand evidence that we encounter in an audit
 khian: agree 100% with Paul
Jose: I agree. However, people can tell you what you want to hear. By observing you validate what the employee tells you
Patricia: Observation leads to further investigation/queries
 Frank: Pull the strings!!!!!!!!!!
Manish: Audit is done not for catching/finding the wrong doing rather its done for monitoring/verifying compliance with the standards or guidlines
 Jose: That is right Oscar
 lahcen: hello, lahcen from Montreal
Jose: We want to audit behavior
Rocio Nunez: I agree with Manish
Jessica Butler: good morning from rocky mounty, nc
 Lina: Agree with Manish
 Ahmed: Agree with Manish
 Gideon: good one manish
sanjeev kumar: use of each sense is situation specific
 Simon Timperley: Yes Manish
 kim: Manish, exactly !
Manish: Thanks guys!! Cheers!! Just sharing my views
Frank: They are all relevant to a small or large degree!!
 Patricia: Agree with Manish
khian: Maish but in doing so u will catch or find the wrong doing
Debbie: Simon, why has the comments section stoppedd?
Simon Timperley: Not for me Debbie
Simon Timperley: Do you need to scroll
Gideon: Khian, I subscribe to the approach of correcting the wrong doing rather than catching or finding
Christi: Debbie, you need to unmute your chat
Manish: Khian its not catching the wrong doing rather you will know about the deviation from the standard/ guidlines
 Simon Timperley: Thanks Christi
Javier: Unfortunately for all of you my comment section still works.
 Lina: That is right Gideon
 khian: after which we correct
Christi: Simon - Except she probably can't see it?
Frank: Happy Friday from Sunny Southern California!!!:)
Stuart: khian - Manish is correct, the Audit is for Monitoring/Verifiying.  not find wrong doing - may simply be lack of documentation or final follow through.  If you looking for something wrong vs. measuring against the standards then your doing something else
Manish: And then you can apply a corrective measure and bring the deviation to the right track
maria lynn yee francisco: sorry chirping is so constant
Lina: There you go Stuart...can't agree more..
 Martyn Sparks: Agree Stuart
 khian: ok ok i agree
 Manish: Thanks stuart!! Cheers!!
Gideon: Right Stuart, measuring against standards is the core purpose of audits
Manish: An audit should be somebody who is knowledgeable about the system or process being audited but should be an independent to avoid biasness.
 Ahmed: Right Manish
Manish: I mean independent of the system/process being audited
Inés Martinez Bernie: I Can´t read the Referencing text word
 Gideon: Thanks Lina
Stuart: :-) I could audit myself everyday - I wouldn't feel very confiident of the evaluation, Need independant verification.  Thanks Manish
Inés Martinez Bernie: Is very little and not clear for me
Roberto: yeah i cant read right
 Manish: Ansolutely right stuart!!
 YOUSSEF: ٌهلا٠ÙÙعشق٠
 YOUSSEF: Right Stuart
 Manish: *absolutely
Debbie: Very difficult to understand.  Monotone delivery does not help.
 khian: i need glasses
 Bedel: Not good slides
Manish: An audit could ask question to the employee of the system/process being audited
mel morris: checklists are important but not the whole story. you need to rely on your experience too
Patricia: Certification audits do not use checklists
 Manish: Good point mel moris
GAIL: I Don't use them  for Internal Audits, Essential for Supplier Audits
Debbie: My comments bar is empty.
Stuart: the checklist is only a tool for managing whatever part of the process you are in
Simon Timperley: Certification audits use the standard as a checklist
 Lina: GAIL you are correct!
mohamed Haja:  we are using checklist in internal and supplier audits .
Boykie: The problem with checklists is they risk "tunnel vision" ...
Simon Timperley: should be an aide memoire
 lahcen: yes we use them
 mohamed Haja: Yes Mr. Simon
Lina: Boykie im with you on that one!
 Henri: I agree with Simon
Frank: Along with observation and detailed concise note taking!!
Stuart: I'm with Simon, a memory tool
Manish: Checklist can be a gud tool as its one of the 7 statistical quality tool in total quality management
Rocio Nunez: I agree with Simon. If you only only base din your experience and if you are doing several type of audits, you can miss some clauses of one of exatct type of audit you are doing. Then check list as aide memoire is very usefull to be sure you cover all what you needed
Frank: Concise, detailed, accurate note taking!!
Sally: You are doing an audit not just there to collect document numbers but also to see if their systems are actually working effectively the check list is an aide memoir only
Paul: People who have been doing the same thing for a long time often become what I call "subconsciously competent" They take things for granted and so forget to include them in training others, or noticing their own omissions. Check lists can reduce this considerably..
Stuart: Yes Frank. But what keeps you on track for what you are recordning concise, detailed, accurate notes?
mel morris: I have to sign off, sorry. I look forward to getting teh update when it's posted.
 Simon Timperley: +1 paul
carlitopas: Checklists is an extension of your memory
marco: You should update your cheklist
Christi: Good Point Paul, How many times have you heard 'because that's how we've always done it"
Frank: It is all relevant!!! You use all your tools to conduct your audit for compliance!!!
Ravi: is there any perticular name for the person arranged by the auditee company to accompany the auditor
Stuart: I agree Frank - no offense intended
Dund: do auditors use 6 sigma principles to collect data and provide improvements?
Frank: The auditee is either in compliance or out of compliance!!
sanjeev kumar: use of checklist is for stremlining the cronology of the whole process. Its the ability of the auditor that decide the outcome of an audit's effectiveness e.g., use for all concerned parties
Inés Martinez Bernie: Thank you guys, your comments enrich the webinar a lot!!
 Frank: Depends on the Metrics!!!!!!!!
 YOUSSEF: Thanks Simon and Oscar
 Sripriya: Thanks
Bedel: Thanks for for sharpness of slides
Stuart: Right Frank.  But I think we are here to make certain as auditors "we" are in "compliance"
 carlitopas: Thanks to all
maria lynn yee francisco: thanks a lotsimon
Ravi: is there any perticular name for the person arranged by the auditee company to accompany the auditor
Ester: Ravi we call that person an "Escort"
khian: cheers Manish, Paul and frank
Frank: Audio/Video and Presentation were excellent, Thank you!!!!!!!!!!
Herbert: Thanks Simon and Oscar, Great webinar as usual.
marco: Ravi, we called DH (Designated hitter)
 Ravi: Thanks
Dund: are 6 sigma principles used to collect data
 Torjo: No
maria lynn yee francisco: thanks oscar
David Levy: Many Thanks Simon and Oscar!!
Manish: Cheera khian!! Thanks paul and stuart
tina beigi: What is the path to be an auditor?
 Ray Edwards: Thank you Oscar!!!
alyssa: thanks.  Have a great rest of your day everyone.
Rocio Nunez: Many thanks .. useful topic, thank you guys
Ehab: why launch is not allowed  for auditor
Patricia: Thank you both Oscar ans Simon
Christi: Thank you Oscar and Simon
Henri: Many thanks Oscar and Simon
 Pilar: Gracias
 Jessica: Thank you!

 Bedel: Thank you
Manish: Thanks simon and oscar!! Great knowledge sharing with everone
 Ahmed: Thanks Simon & Oscar
 Naval: Thanks to every one!
Ravi: Ehab: what do you mean by launch ??
Debbie: My sidebar is not showing any questions or comments.  I commented over a half hour ago that it was my smoke alarm that was chirping and I did not realize my chat was unmuted.  I turned it off at about 10:30am
sanjeev kumar: thanks for organizers and participants
Jessica Butler: thanks for good webinar
 Kishore: Thank you from US
Gideon: I have checklists generated for my internal food safety audits. do i need to always work with an internal audit team to carry out my internal audits,?
Manish: Audit should not be a surprise phenomena rather its should be preinformed
Bedel: Still, there was very little information on audit tools
Ravi: is it possible to add the name on the certificate??
