5 areas that influence commitment to food safety

Taking place:

Friday, June 17, 2016 - 03:00 PM - 04:00 PM UK Time

This is a 10.00 AM Eastern US Start

Presenter:

Brita Ball, Principal Consultant, Advancing Food Safety Culture, Brita Ball & Associates

Webinar Overview:

The letter of senior management commitment was signed and filed. But written commitment isn’t enough to have a food safety management system that works. What else does senior management need to do, and how will that influence food safety behavior all the way to the front line? And then there's what few experts talk about -- the roles of middle managers, supervisors, front line workers and others…what are their roles in bringing food safety programs to life? Join this webinar to learn how both management commitment and work unit commitment to food safety are critical to food safety behavior, other factors that influence commitment, and ways to increase commitment to food safety throughout a company – top down and bottom up.

muhammad zeshan : 9
Robert : 7
Kathleen : 7
Kirsten : I don't understand the poll
Herbert : Herbert-6
Sara : 2
Natalia : 7
enrique : Very often the employees receive mixed signals on how to take the systems seriously by the operations managers, where production numbers are a priority.
Sara : good point enrique
Robert : I agree with Enrique
Jumoke : This also takes place at my Organisation ;
Jumoke : good point
alyssa : It is an age old dilema, quantity (OPS) v. quality (QA)
muhammad zeshan : Like Enrique
Ingrid : what is meant by resources?
Diane Burgess : quantaty over quality over food safety
bhelle : nice evening from the Philippines
Tricia : The slide is a bit blurry. Can it be sharpened.
Simon Timperley : Resources = things you need to do the job, people, tools, equipment, time etc.
ayman : Hi all from Egypt
Niesha : Food safety always takes second number to production number from past experiences I have had, always production numbers at the end because that it is monetary value
Ingrid : thanks simon
Niesha : Diane nicely said
Declan Blanchfield : Management shouldnt except changes untill they change themselves - and unfortunately monetary will mostly receive priority
muhammad zeshan : Training is the best source for best results of food safety
muhammad zeshan : Training should be with best material and proper languages
alyssa : training and accountability follow-up
Rener De Jesus : same here Niesha. After all, it is all about money
Martha : It is not ncessary to invest a lot of money in trainning!
Simon Timperley : 100% agree Martha
Tricia : An effective training of trainers is necessary for the ones delivering the training
SCPCI Davao : slides still aren't clear here
Tricia : Sometimes training is not required as there is not a knowledge or skill gap.
Natalia : yes, slides are not clear
Cindy : Training is key to having a successful management system.
Brenda : Give the employees examples of food safety that affect their families, and their behavior changes dramatically
Natalia : thank you, now good
muhammad zeshan : Folow up and feedback is very important
Kirsten : If only I could act like a drill sargeant and get away with it!
Hilary Hale : The slides seem to be going in an out of focus , mainly out of focus.

muhammad zeshan : Friendly leadership is very important
Simon Timperley : Hilary I think it could be your connection
Kirsten : JK!
Natalia : also important to understand that people have understanding issue relative our expectations,. Important create atmosphere during trainings, when people don't hesistate ask explanation if not clear
Hilary Hale : Simon, i will attempt another connection.
Gabi : how do you convince management that daily meetings are essential and 10 minutes away from production is not the end of the world
Cindy : Absolutely Theophilus
Joanne : Training is the start of the process. It is essential that the learning results in behavioural change. So following training it is necessary to observe and coach employees in the right behaviours.
Maggie : Training is the exchange of knowlege.  It is not a measure of competency.  Behavior is best changed by observation.  Upper management should lead by example.
Kirsten : Brita I love it but it doesn't always work like this -- people can understand the what/why/how but they still choose not to do it
Natalia : trainer or leader is responsible for final understanding
Niesha : I think the best way to truly fulfill food safety commitment in management is to make it a key performance indicator (KPI) for them. Once the business applies monetary value to it, then it will work. A committed management will reflect a committed work place.
Nicole : would you give your opinion on the concept of managing up to develop food safety programs?
zewdi : the slides are not clear--can't read.
SCPCI Davao : same here zewdi
Deep : The Organization should  invest / sponsor towards the employee training.. adds to motivation of the employee..
Simon Timperley : If slides are no clear it is your connection or the quality of the stream to your area
Niesha : As in the presentation with the 3 levels of  culture, mgmt is mostly seen in levels "see and touch" and "talk". Workers are seen in the "DO" level
Simon Timperley : Correct Niesha
Joanne : Niesha agree with KPI approach particularly where the operational teams are given accountability for delivery.
Vickie : I lost the sound
Rener De Jesus : same here kristen
Simon Timperley : Close and rejoin Vickie
alyssa : Niesha, agreed.  Some downfall comes in those established as leaders already are not equiped to be a leader, i.e. when leding a team in food safety culture.
