Hello everybody

 

I wonder if anybody could tell me if tigernut oil is authorized in Japan as food or food ingredient for human consumption.

Maybe some of you living in Japan are consumers of that product.

If I am not mistaken here in EU only the root is authorized so the oil is to be considered as a novel food.

Searching the food safey website in Japan I could not  find any section to write a query. I could not find any about novel food legislation neither. Thank you in advance. Best regards.Esther

Just in case the name could lead to a misunderstanding I will write the scientific name of that food: Cyperus esculentos. 

 

Here in Spain there is a typical milk like beverage

Hello again everybody

 

While still wainting for a clue or commnet about the tigernuy and the japanese market I would like to make the same question but refered to the USA market.

Is the tigernut oil authorized in USA as a food or food ingredient?

In a fast search on the FDA wesite I found tigernut in a poisonous plant database ( date 1967). I do not know how to interprete this. Thanks in advance.Regards
