One of our customers is asking compliance documents for FSMA.

I am not sure how to fulfill their requirement. We are SQF Level 2 certified.

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks

What, specifically, are they asking for?

There are 7 main rules under the framework.

Preventive Controls for Human Food

Sanitary Transportation

Foreign Supplier Verification Program

Intentional Adulteration (Food Defense)

Produce Safety

Preventive Controls for Food for Animals

Accredited Third-Party Certification

Each one has it's own requirements.

I asked them but did not get clear reply about their requirement.

Just wanted to be confirm I am not missing anything.

I will try to sent a consolidated summary for all the procedures we are following in order to comply with rules.

Thanks a lot

I'm no expert, but if you are SQF certified you are some way toward fulfilling the requirements of FSMA, but by no means all of the way.  If you have not conducted a gap analysis of your system against FSMA requirements (as per Marshall's list) and you have not updated your system accordingly then you will not satisfy the requirement.

Have you aligned your system with FSMA?

Simon

You really should ask for clarification of their request.

Are they asking if you have created a "Food Safety Plan"? (Not a HACCP Plan)

Are they asking if you have upated your GMP's to comply with the new 21 CFR 117 Subpart B?

Hi dt2win,

Marshall is very correct - you need to ask them for clarification of their request. What "FSMA compliance documents" in particular do they need? If you've already done your due diligence by harmonizing your programs with FSMA (hats off to you in the event you truly have!), your FSMA "compliance" documents could likely fill a few banker's boxes. It's quite possible that they don't even have the slightest clue so you may very well be doing both parties a favor by asking for a bit of intelligence.

Regards,
Chris
