Hi guys

We have a storage facility we lease to store wine and wonder if anyone has any experience with a BRC audit regarding an off-site storage area they can share with us?

How much we can do to the wine we store there before it becomes a 'production' area in the eyes of an auditor?

Any help gratefully received

Cheers

Mike

Hi Mike,

You might get more relevant answers if you can suggest what you would like to "do" to the wine and on whose behalf.

IMEX of other items, packaging-type operations are regarded as a potential "Production" stage  but i daresay the overall context is also relevant, eg the "owner" of the  product, the specific Standard involved, etc

Kind Regards,

Hi Charles

Thanks the the reply. We would just like to be able to maintain the wine for our clients by being able to make sulphur additions without the storage area being classified as a 'production' area in the eyes of a BRC auditor........

It is an old building that needs a lot of work done to get it up to a 'production area' standard so i suppose i need to know how far we need to go for a BRC audit with this facility designated as a 'storage' area.

At the moment we transport 'cloudy' wine to and from the storage area but not much else goes on.

Any help with pointers out there would be awesome :-)

Cheers

Mike

Hi Mike,

Thks for clarification.

I deduce this storage area is not currently involved with anyone's BRC-related activities.

From BRC's POV,  the storage stage within a manufacturer's production plan is typically auto-included within their scope of "Production" since it will presumably be on the manufacturer's production flowchart. The storage is usually BRC-designated as an "Enclosed area" of relatively low risk of contamination.

Not sure if you know (?) but BRC offer a variety of FS Standards other than Manufacturing, eg Storage/Distribution, Agent-Brokering. The relevance will depend on yr specific intentions/options. Their detailed requirements for each situation are spelled out in the (afaik free) downloadable Standards from BRC website.

It all depends on what you want to do.

Kind Regards,
