FSSC 22000 – An updated Tool for Today’s Regulatory Environment

Taking place:

Friday, August 18, 2017 - 03:00 PM - 04:00 PM UK Time

This is a 10.00 AM Eastern US Start

Presenter:

Jacqueline Southee, US liaison, FSSC 22000

Webinar Overview:

Food Safety System Certification 22000 (FSSC 22000) is a GFSI benchmarked certification program based on the ISO 22000 family of international standards. FSSC 22000 certification provides evidence of a company’s capacity to meet its food safety responsibilities with a robust, but flexible Food Safety Management System. A recent revision to the FSSC 22000 requirements has been completed to bring the international standard (ISO) in line with the updated benchmarking requirements of GFSI and to provide oversite to the 100+ Licensed Certification Bodies and 15.000+ certified organizations certified. The update will also help FSSC 22000 certified companies all over the world meet the challenges presented by recent regulatory changes including those presented by FSMA in the US. In this webinar, Jacqueline Southee, US Liaison for FSSC 22000 will outline how the revisions to FSSC 22000 have been incorporated into Version 4 and how the audit can help companies achieve compliance.

Charissa : sound is coming over at times like a robot is speaking
Simon Timperley : those wth audio visual issues it will be your connection
guru : what is meant by PAS?
SUMALEE : cannot  open the webinar
Janice : will there be a time frame set for the unannounced audit, ie- within 60 days of the certification date?
Walter : Are you aware that there are several States in the US that require LICENSING by the Dept of Professional Regulation to conduct audits and/or consulting in Food Safety? In Illinois the first offense is a misdemeanor and subject to a $5,000.00 fine. The second and subsequent offenses make it felony.
Mark Kwan : PAS is Publicly Available Specification
Henry Bouchat : Can you be FSSC 22000 and not be registered to ISO 9001:2015 ?
Charissa : there is no time frame for unannounced audits
guru : Thank you Mark
Andre Kutassy : YES HENRY YOU CAN
Charissa : yes Henry
Janice : there wont be a time frame for unannounced audits?
Ashenafi Ambaw : good to have one unannounced audit from one certification cycle
coleen marcia henry : Hey Donna. Thanks
Manuel : sorry about the unanounced audit we have to do it with our certified house with no known of the operation or the goverment is going to do it
Salawu hammed abolaji : Hi peoples in the house
Raylene : Hi Donna B
mel : There has to be some timeline - otherwise the audit could in theory be two months after the first one - that's not annual. I think BRC is within 3 months of the certification expiry date?
Harry : What astonishes me quite often are the huge gaps in hazard analyses. To give an idea: a Pakistani list for red chili paste, which I compared with the RASFF over the last 100 EU notifications: Aflatoxin, good for 51 rejects and OTA, good for 11 rejects were even not mentioned in the HA and therefore
Spring : can you give some examples of food fraud?
Charissa : no Janice, there is no time frame for unannounced audits
Ashenafi Ambaw : Food fraud prevention is a new concept
Donna Bromfield : Hey RayJ!
mel : Spring - saying your sausages are 100% beef and finding out they have a number of other meats in them!
Salima : Interested as an auditor
Abdul Rahim : malamine scandal in china is an example of food fraud ...spring
Véronique : what is the difference between food defense and food fraud 6
Signe : mostly for economic gain
Andre Kutassy : THE MOTIVATION vERONIQUE FOOD FRAUD IS FOR ECONOMIC GAIN AND FOOD DEFENSE IS FOR HARM
Signe : Fod fraud= economic gain
mel : Veronique - food fraud is when items are introduced that you did not intend, may or may not be harmful. Food defense centers on deliberate sabotage to further an agenda
Sapna : The written Food Fraud Vulnerability Assessment should include just the products being manufactured by a FBO or the ingredients being used within the facility?
thies : I thought that allergens have "cross contact" and not "cross contamination". Why has FSSC chosen the other term
Ashenafi Ambaw : Apart from allergen Hazard analysis is is good to have the requirement in FSSC
Mark Kwan : We are a flexible packaging company and FSSC 22000 certified based on ISO 22000:2005 and ISO / TS 22002-4:2013. As per FSSC ver.4.1 Part 2, clause 2.1.4, 6) Management of Allergens is included. Care to elaborate on this one? How can we convince auditors that this is not applicable with us? Thanks
phil : Canada just discovered 20% of sausage meat was adulterated.
DANIAL FITRI : what is the difference b/w food defense and food fraud prevention?
Donna Bromfield : The Preventive Controls for Human Food regulation uses the term "Allergen cross-contact" instead of cross-contamination
Faith : Is enviornmental monitoring e.g., Listeria required even if the production zones are all low risk?
Andre Kutassy : THE MOTIVATION DANIAL FOOD FRAUD IS FOR ECONOMIC GAIN AND FOOD DEFENSE IS FOR HARM
Rochelle : Food fraud may also be when a substitute for an ingredient is used because it cheaper , but was not declared.
Priya Sundaram : allergen cross contact can happen during storage and transport- so you need to ensure you assessed risk for that - if applicable
Kim : Walter:  interesting - is this applicable for 3rd party certification auditors only?  Is it requirement for company auditors who say do supplier audits?
mel : Faith - all monitoring is risk assessed. if there is no chance of listeria in your facility, then listeria monitoring will not be required. you have to ascertain the risk
Sapna : Is the Food Fraud Vulnerability Assessment subjected to third party verification and validation? Or can an operator conduct internal verification which can be presented during FSSC audits..
Mark Kwan : For the food defense requirements, can we use TACCP (Threat Assessment Critical Control Point) as per PAS 96:2014? Cheers
Donna : will we have acces to this presentation after its over??
phil : Seems like a Canada has food fraud on a huge scale: a combination of industry greed, organized crime, and weak regulatory oversight
Simon Timperley : yes Donna
Signe : TACCP = Threat Assesment Critical Control Point
Mahmoud : What the control measures for Food Fraud
Faith : Is a formal procedure required for food fraud vulnerabilityassessment? Can we use a tool available online like that from SSAFE?
Andre Kutassy : MARK WE HAVE USED THIS METHOD TOO
Andre Kutassy : FAITH I HAVE USED SSAFE FOR VACCP
Priya Sundaram : Faith- yes- you can use a standardized tool
Mark Kwan : Thanks Andre...cheers
Signe : VACCP=Vournrable Assesment Critical Control Point, Food defence
Faith : Hi all, thanks! Actually we are also using SSAFE to comply with the requirement
Jacek Markiewicz : Good guide for food defence is PAS 96
Mark Kwan : Can we use USFDA CARVER+Shock to cover for the food fraud prevention? Many thanks
Mahmoud : What the control measures for Food Fraud ?????
Andre Kutassy : maRK FOR TACCP i USED THE FOOD DEFENSE PLAN BUILDER FROM FDA
mel : Phil - Canada has some issues, please don't generalize , there are speciifc issues just like other countries.
leila : Mark, better the  FDPB. carver is too large....
Mark Kwan : Leila: FDBP?
Faith : Hi Mel..thank you for your input..
leila : food defense plan builder
leila : check the FDA web
Fernanda : In casse a company had integratiedebat ISO 9001 and FSsC 22k, the documentaded threat assessment procedure can be combined with the new risk  management?
Mark Kwan : Thanks Leila
HAZEM ALSHOBAKI : Sapna , u can create you VACCP program as HACCP , based on risk assessment critiria and migation factors , then u apply VACCP plan
leila : Carver: hours and hours answering questions.....
Shuchi : Keep the good work going. You people are amazing. Distributing knowledge every Friday to us.
Sapna : Thank you Hazem..this would be in-line with the vulnerability assessment as required by the Food Defense sections of FSMA?
coleen marcia henry : Great! Looking forward to receiving the comparison document. Thanks so much.
JACOB : wow! this is great
Olivier : when will this supplement be published ?
Priya Sundaram : Would it be accurate to say that FSSC2200 is certication is a FSMA compatible tool that helps implement a food safety management system but does NOT ENSURE compliance to FSMA?
Anna : What is timeframe to publish the line by line comparison?
Donna : Thank you Simon
JAYANT : with all the changes, will FSSC 22000 certification be equivalent to FSMA requirements
leila : Understood that an extra section regarding FSMA will be "added", such as IFS or BRC
mel : Thank you Jaqueline
Bernard : Can you expand on "multi-site" in one of the slides?
HAZEM ALSHOBAKI : Sapna if u like i can share some documents as example about VACCP ,
Emma Fonseca : thanks jaqueline
Spring : t.  Now I am educated on fssc22000.
Abdul Ghafar : Thanks :)

Mahmoud : Thanks for everyone
Emmanuel Ani : Interesting and very educative, can we get the presentation slides?
Priya Sundaram : Are FFSC auditors required to be certified preventive controls auditors?

guru : HARPC?
Jane : ane  Can we safely conclude that FSSC 22000 incorporates the requirement of ISO 22000 and the FSMA while meeting GFSI requirements?
Lilian : Can you share an example of food fraud in packaging industry?
Signe : did you sa that we could have a copy of the GAP made by FSSC222000 up to FSMA?
Nurani Sinaga : Thank you Simon for the presentatio
Kayleen : Wait, theres no unannounced audits in 2018?
Janice : did I miss the answer about unannounced audit not having a time frame? Does this mean they can come anytime the whole year? I understand it will be 1/3 years, but some schemes restrict to a certain number of days around the audit date
Vidhya : There is no any specific regulations in India, for allergen,  so what  to be completed for?
Shuchi : @guru -HAPRC is hazard analysis and risk preventive control
Salawu hammed abolaji : Thanks am real enjoyed your discussion
AbdulRahman : I am managing food factory that is ISO 22000 certified. If we apply FSSC2200 will  enhance our export process specially to USA ?
Fernanda : For the compagnies that are already certified with the old version, their certificate Will be valid until their expired date?
guru : Thank you suchi
Tammy Bradley : For 2017 audits we do not have to be in compliance with version 4 is that correct?  If so with 2018 being a transitional year do we need to be in compliance 100% with the updates during our 2018 audits?
leila : Vidhya: always comply with the country where the products will be sell
Jane :  Can we safely conclude that FSSC 22000 incorporates the requirement of ISO 22000 and the FSMA while meeting GFSI requirements
mel : I used to work at a packaging company and we had a robust allergen program. we were peanut free becaause we made icecream packaging and if we screwed up the labelling it might result in nut products being placed into incorrect package at the customer
JACOB : how can i get my food company certified with FSSC 22000
mel : also i once audited a company that claimed it was peanut free and i found a peanut package in the production room floor . the auditee was mortified
