Developing a Supply Chain Program for Regulatory and GFSI Compliance

Taking place:

Friday, September 15, 2017 - 03:00 PM - 04:00 PM UK Time

This is a 10.00 AM Eastern US Start

Presenter:

Jennifer McCreary, Technical Manager, Training and Education Services, Global Food Division, NSF International

Webinar Overview:

New food safety regulations and changes to international Food Safety Management schemes are placing more of the responsibility for supplier control directly on the customer. The supply chain program must provide assurance that hazards requiring a control (in the supply chain) are significantly reduced or eliminated. Does your supplier control/assurance program meet these new requirements? How can you align your current supplier program with the new preventive controls? This session will help you to identify steps you can take to bring your supply-chain control program into compliance. The session will identify some tips and tools for identifying any gaps or opportunities within your current Food Safety Management System to ensure that you are in conformance with both the regulations and your GFSI program requirements.

Abdallah : Hello
Brian : I could be wrong, but under FSMA, the person who is handling the risk analysis is the also the person who is supposed to be determining Preventive Controls, which thereby requires them to be a PCQI, not just a QI, correct?  And the PCQI requirements are more stringent.
JAYANT : Hazard Analysis data base from CFIA. Is there one equivalent by FDA that can be refered.

Dionne Mills : how can you effectively verify and validate that a supplier of a raw material considered critical to quality has adeq in place to prevent intetional adulteratand other risk where travel is considered to expensive? is using a trusted audit agency in the exporting country sufficient?ion uate measures
Dao : Hi
stephane : Is a GAP Analysis's between all FSMA rules requirements and GFSI Scheme available somewhere?
Jerry : Dionne, we buy after product is already in the US and we are not listed as the importer and therefore do not have to travel
Brian : stephanie - yes, there is for SQF, on the SQFI website.  Not sure about other GFSI standards.

Alpahjour Ahmed Bah III : Has the GFSI standards and requirements been updated and aligned to be representative of  the new rules in FSMA and FSVP? If so can such data or presentation be send to us as the participants/
Judy : stephanie- FSMA comparisons to SQF and FSSC 22000 were done by The Acheson Group and the reports are published on their website http://www.achesongroup.com/
stephane : Judy, Thank you
chi samuel : thank you Judy for the link
Vivian : How to work around with suppliers who do not give copies of their GFSI audit and/or corrective actions?
Rita : Vivian, i request third party audits, HACCP, and other docs from our brokers. Our brokers have these on file and if they refuse to provide them I will contact the supplier directly if the broker is unable to provide them.
Lisa : Piki-don't use that supplier!
Dee : Vivian, I've done more and more NDAs with suppliers to be able to get the information needed.
PIKI GHOSH : rita what about letter of continuing guarantees?
PIKI GHOSH : thank you lisa
Rita : We ask for LOG, as well as other pertinent food sfety docs
PIKI GHOSH : rita even from brokers and distributors?
Rita : yes
PIKI GHOSH : thank you
Jacinthe : A simple comment: As a third-party consultant, with a strong sense of consumer health, and having confidence in all our regulatory systems and GFSI, I often wonder how a small business can meet all these requirements, sometimes even of large companies. I still have confidence.
Tausi Abdul Mkalimoto : Hi everybody,
Nidhi : Hello
Dee : I do LOGs from either the manufacturer or the distributors. Also my company has our own warranty we have suppliers sign and most times they do.
Rita : Jacinthe We are a small business and it's very difficult to mmet all these requirements. It's taking a toll.
Judy : As a supplier and distributor I receive so may questionairres and forms with questions that are so unnecessary, i.e., if we are GFSI certified, why do you have to ask all these questions about pest control, sanitation, allergen control, training, etc.- it is part of th GFSI certification
Tausi Abdul Mkalimoto : Hi,Please assist to connect through Google Crome in my computer
Aleksandar : My supplier had 18 minor non conformities and SQF score 94(!) How do I trust credibility of the SQF audit? It was NSF certifying body
Dee : I know that my company if the supplier has their own self assessment that goes through all the needed information that is on our survey then we can use that instead.  I think that would be the ideal way to go since then you can hopefully not fill out so many forms.
Dylan : Aleksandar- did the supplier contest the non-conformance's?
Calvin Ng : 18 minors could of been grouped together
Nidhi : How shall we determine the frequency requirement of supplier approval
Calvin Ng : each minor came from each section, but the auditor grouped them together
Maciej : I'm looking after base of
Francis Wallington : What can a small business do and what tools can be applied to enable supplier assurance?
Judy : I have the overview of our systems prepared, as well as provide our customers with all applicable product stewardhip documents, and i stikk have customers asking to fil out questionairres
Tausi Abdul Mkalimoto : For the suppliers of packing materials what do I need to audit so as to conform when Auditing is done to him.It is sugar packaging materials
Maciej : I'm looking after base of 380 (!) suppliers therefore what is needed most is good system!
natalia tsumanets : Alexander, may be score 94 - as a result of reassessment after closing non-conformities?
marta : Maciej, witaj w klubie. mam to samo...
robin : Thanks - Robin SCF
Liz : suppliers need to provide any needed documentation to us within 24 hours?  Is this required by the FDA?
PIKI GHOSH : for apckaing i understand we can stop the docs at the last entity that is modifying the material?
Francis Wallington : Simon turn your microphone on , you are echoing
Jacinthe : Sound is bad!!
ROCHELLE : Thank you. Very informative!
AbdulRahman : How can we evaluate distribution company which is buying from various manufacturers?
Judy : Liz- no, it is not required by the FDA.   You create your own program
Bill : Thank you!

Maxine : Often for small island states the supplier is a Broker and the problems occur when these Brokers are unable  or refuses to provide COAs or reveal the Mnufacturer's identity.
Anna Carolina Zaroni : Thank you very much!
chandler : As a small business working with larger suppliers, I find an issue when we have suppliers reply to our requests for documents with letters of guarantee. Do you feel like an umbrella letter of guarantee is acceptable as supplier verification?
ATCHARAPORN KHOOMTONG : Thank you...Great presentation
chi samuel : Thanks Ms. McCreary for  the awesome presentation
PIKI GHOSH : thank you
BK : I have the same question as chandler:
Simone : Thanks for the great webinar.
Eng/yasmin : what is the best way of evaluation supplier when getting ingredients from multiple suppliers?
BK : As a small business working with larger suppliers, I find an issue when we have suppliers reply to our requests for documents with letters of guarantee. Do you feel like an umbrella letter of guarantee is acceptable as supplier verification?
Mar Marti : What's the best resource for risk assessment based on countries and products?
Rose : Can you confirm that suppliers that process food outside  the US do not have to comply with FSVP rule
Stefano : can you answer Mar Martí's question, please?
Mar Marti : Thanks Stefano
Tina : Distributors are required to meet FSMA.
Rhonda : I believe it was mentioned to check out FSPCA..in Canada
Kim : USP has Appendix XVII: Food Fraud Mitigation Guidance document which is a good resource of factors to consider about supplier vulnerabilities.  Also, have available a food fraud dbase - there is a cost for this but it allows you to check ingredients to help determine food fraud risks.
Adrienne : We are a storage facility and have nothing in house but customer product.  Is it necessary to get ingredients from them?
Lisa : So it's not required to give the full audt?
stephane : Regarding Customer Complaints do you ask for records of complaints or procedures?
Tina : if refrigeration is required for safety, you have to follow FSMA.
Aleksandar : Can we get a copy of this presentation and discussion
Judy : Lisa- you risk assess the ingredient and the supplier and it is your decision what type of audit you need or not need to do
Mar Marti : Thanks for the presentation, amazing!
Judy : Tina- yes
Eva : Thank you!
chandler : We have an issue with larger suppliers not wanting to provide documentation to us as a small business. Do you find an umbrella letter of guarantee to be an acceptable form of supplier verification. Especially from distributors I have noticed this trend.
stephane : Thanks to you both
Allison Oishi : thank you
Kyota : Thank you!
Arturo : Thanks, great job !
BK : As a small business working with larger suppliers, I find an issue when we have suppliers reply to our requests for documents with letters of guarantee. Do you feel like an umbrella letter of guarantee is acceptable as supplier verification?
