Hi all,

 

Would like your thoughts on those who were recently audited with then 2017 AIB standard on what template for the food fraud vulnerability assessment under this clause?

 

Looking for the best and suitable template to use for this assessment.

Hi,

    Food Defense and Food Fraud are very different things. Food Defense is an intentional adulteration with the motivation to harm people. Food Fraud is the intentional adulteration for economic gain of the seller. GFSI published a nice paper with an image that quickly shows how these are different but overlap and also included Food Safety and Food Quality.

     I am not aware of a vulnerability assessment for Food Defense, however, there are several free publically available tools to help create vulnerability assessment for Food Fraud. I have listed two below

1st link seems broken ?.

2nd link - Unsure  USP's main services, eg database, are free (other than via introductory offers) although the FFMG may be (didn't investigate).

 

I'm also unsure wherther USP's "EMA" is identical to GFSI's "VA" (certainly similar). ?

 

@kibeda - thks interesting template but it looks unrelated to GFSI's concept of VA in the food field ?

 

@Ace - So which interpretation of "food fraud VA" is being used by AIB (as noted Post2, various uses of "VA" are currently being made?)

     As it relates to food fraud USP's food fraud mitigation guidance is free and provides an ingredient based approach to performing a vulnerability assessment. USP also has other tools to help organizations ensure food integrity including a book of standards defining food grade for various food ingredients (food chemicals codex), reference materials, the food fraud database and training and consulting. 

 

     Economically motivated adulteration (EMA) I believe is a US FDA term as stated in the FSMA Preventive Control rule. I see the term "EMA" more analogous to the term "food fraud" which GFSI uses. I have not seen GFSI use the term EMA.

Hi Peter,

 

Regarding USP's Fraud document I agree it was a pioneering document.

But such a shame the database went commercial. :thumbdown:

 

And yes, EMA is US terminology. Predated FSMA I think. The whole topic is bedevilled with terminologies in fact.
