The Codex STAN 1-1985 defines Date of Manufacture as the date on which the food becomes the product as described.

 

​I would like to be clarified on the use of "as described". What does it mean? Does it refer to the contents of a finished product only? Or does it include both​ the contents and the immediate container? Also, how is Production Date​ correctly interpreted?

This is a Labelling Standard.

 

Assuming the container is not consumed, ie is not "food", I anticipate that "as described" refers to the food contents.

 

The terminology "Production Date" is not mentioned in this Standard. Google suggests - "The date on which the item was first produced or created."
