Currently level 3 for shell egg plant manufacturing.  I'm really stuck on which element to use.  Do we use the Food Quality Elements 2.0 or Manufacturing 2.0.  Question stems from 2.8.1.  Food quality is Identity preserved foods which what was currently been used in SQF 7.2.  But under Good manufacturing it is missing and replaced with allergen, and allergen is missing in Food Quality.

Help!

With the Edition 8 of the SQF Code Food Safety Requirements and Quality are separate.  You must meet the requirements of the SQF Food Safety Code for Manufacturing Section 2 and the the GMP Module for your product to get the GFSI Certification.  Then if you want to get certified by SQF in Quality you must meet the requirements of their separate Quality Code too. (Yes, the Identity Preserved Foods section is in the quality code, not the food safety code so if you decide not to go for quality you do not have to worry about that section with SQF.)

Please note, if you are not already aware,

  • the Quality Code is now a separate audit and can be added on to your annual re-certification audit for an additional 1/2 day or you can have it completed at a totally different time and it will be a full day and you pay for the additional travel costs.
  • The Quality Audit is not scored, it is just a pass or fail rating.
  • The Food Safety Code is GFSI supported but the Quality Code is not.
