Hello~ I am hoping to get some clarifying information on Co-manufacturing... if we are a food manufacturing facility that is certified to the BRC standard and we want to contract out with a different manufacturing facility for manufacture and packing of a product for us, do they have to be BRC certified as well? or can it be certified to any GFSI schematic?

Dear Bekah,

It can also be certified by another GFSI recognized scheme. Another alternative proposed in the BRC standard is that you let carry out:

  • "a documented site audit with a scope to include product safety, traceability, HACCP review and good manufacturing practices by an experienced and demonstrably competent product safety auditor"

So luckely there are different options to manage this situation. Please, don't forget to look thoroughly to the other applicable clausules and to implement them properly.

Kind regards,

What does your CUSTOMER want? If they only require a GFSI then it doesn't matter. Some customers demand one over the other....
