Tepnel has launched three new BIOKITSassays for Almond, Hazelnut and Shellfish to aid food manufacturers with the labelling of ingredients known to trigger food allergies and intolerances.
Tepnel now offers the largest range of ELISA test kits for quantifying low (ppm) levels of the major food allergens. There are nine BIOKITS assays including: Casein, Egg, Gluten, Peanut, Sesame and Whey. The BIOKITS validated assays are designed to be used for ensuring labelling compliance and process-control to minimise the risk of cross contamination. Where incidents of undeclared food allergens in foods have arisen the costs of product recalls are significant, and BIOKITS products (including our on-site RAPID 3-D tests) are being employed to solve the underlying problems.
The three new assays have been extensively validated with customer trials as well as in-house studies in order to ensure reliability in such a critical area of consumer safety. For manufacturers minimising the risk of cross contamination our validation means having confidence in laboratory results, so that important process decisions can be made. For the analyst, all kits are based on a 48 well ELISA with colour coded strips and break-apart wells to maximise flexibility with sample numbers.
Ease of use is further improved by providing a generic approach to the methodology. This means colour coded reagents, ready to use standards all with a range from 1 to 20ppm, and the same incubation times. Once a laboratory is set-up to perform one of these BIOKITS assays they have the capabilities to perform the others. When new sample types and processes need to be validated, Tepnel’s technical support is on-hand to provide advice, information and laboratory analysis from its accredited laboratories.
