Kheer

"Kheer" is a traditional South Asian sweet dish, made by boiled rice or broken wheat with milk and sugar. Generally flavored with cardamom, raisins, saffron, pistachios and/or almonds. It is typically served after a meal or is consumed as a stand alone savory. Kheer is also made in variants that use vermicelli as a base instead of grains. Other variants are Louki Kheer, Gajar Kheer (Carrot), Barley Kheer.

A simple recipe (taken from http://www.foodista.com) is:

Ingredients
1 Milk (full cream) litre
125 grams Crushed Rice
150 grams Sugar
5 teaspoons Chopped Pistachio or more as you like
25 piece Chopped Almond (Soak in water remove skin)
2 Green Cardamom 3 nos
Kewra Essence few drops

Preparation
Step 1
Pour milk in a pan, add all the above ingredients, and cook on low flame for 30 to 45 mintes till thicken.

Step 2
Remove in a glass bowl, Decorate top with almond, pistachio and refrigerate.

Step 3
Serve on cool.
