Title – Operations Director
The Operations Director is responsible for strategically leading the management of acquiring, storing, and distributing over 6 million pounds of food each year to feed the food insecure of North Georgia working closely with the Executive Director and leading the operations team, the OD is the driving force behind the critical role of all food and facilities-related aspects of Georgia Mountain Food bank.
Job Responsibilities:
The Operations Director will identify and manage the needs of the organization to successfully execute operations and capital priorities. Of key importance is the ability to be able to roll up one’s sleeves, dive-in, and produce results utilizing the existing infrastructure to meet current operations goals, while making time to strategically grow the overall effectiveness and depth of our efforts. Innovation, creativeness and growth are expected and highly encouraged.
The ideal candidate will be able to execute the existing operations activities while providing excellent management skills:
• Food Safety practices and procedures
• Staff management, goal setting and evaluation
• Budget development and oversite
• Inventory Management, efficiencies and improvement
The OD is responsible for working with Georgia Mountain Food Bank staff to manage:
• Food sourcing including USDA and other government food programs
• Disaster preparedness
• Grant-Funded food purchases
• Grower/processor donations
• Retail donations and relationships
• Inventory product mix
• Food receiving and inventory maintenance
• Rescue food sorting
• Food drive coordination
• Food distribution
• Agency shopping and deliveries
• Inventory and recall management
• Food safety
• Transportation

• Facility sanitation and maintenance
The OD is also responsible for working with other GMFB staff and outside vendors on:
• Capital improvements
• Vendor selection
• Contract monitoring
• Project Management
• Data analysis
The OD is responsible to ensure process and facility compliance with AIB, Health Department, EPA, OSHA, FDA, Homeland Security, Fire Departments, USDA and Feeding America.
Application Qualifications
Position Requirements:
• Minimum 5 years management/supervisory experience in a warehouse environment
• Experience in or knowledge of food bank operations and services desirable
• High level of attention to detail, data management and record-keeping
• Ability to learn quickly and accurately employ food banking software to manage reporting, and audits
• Ability to train and motivate staff and volunteers to work as a team
• Ability to comply with all relevant food safety procedures and guidelines to ensure an efficient, client friendly and compliant food safe environment
• Excellent computer skills in Microsoft suite of programs
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Requires an extreme sense of urgency, incredibly detail oriented and ability to multitask well.
• Passion for the GMFB mission of eliminating hunger in northeast Georgia.
• Experience with fiscal responsibility to include financial management skills, developing and managing budgets, and expanding the organization’s mission with limited resources.
• Integrity and ability to work effectively with people of various economic, racial, ethnic and religious
• backgrounds.
Working Conditions:
Some work is performed in a warehouse with a significant amount of walking on concrete surfaces. Entrances may be open and work conditions during the summer months can be very hot, and during the winter very cold. Employee may be going in and out of freezers and coolers with extreme variations in temperature. Certain work requires prolonged time working within the freezer at sub-zero temperatures. Workspace could be very dusty, and on occasions can be noisy due to the traffic of motorized vehicles operated in the building. Periodically may work outside and be exposed to the elements. Employee may be exposed to spoiled food and sharp objects due to working with damaged product. Work involves moving boxes and employee must lift, bend, stoop, pick up and move objects up to 50 pounds regularly. Work involves using manual pallet jacks and therefore requires an ability to push and pull pallets to the capacity of the equipment.
