Can anyone help with section 4.2.5 Security of the Issue 5 BRC Global Standard?
It asks that 'finished product is held under secure storage and transportation conditions eg tamper evident packaging etc etc' (we are food manufacturer)
I'm translating this as.....security seals should be used once wagons are loaded prior to despatch to an external storage facility. Does anyone have any other opinions on this ........ and how should we approach security for curtain-sided wagons? (solid ones are not an option at the moment).
Any input would be gratefully appreciated.

Pallet wrap & hood product and possibly seal wrap or hood with health tape or vet label. And if the packs themselves where tamper evident. If they where vac packed it would be evidant if they had been tampered with.

I agree with Soda there are different levels product protection from primary, secondary and tertiary packaging and then vehicles if necessary. It depends on the product - can you tell us what it is Dawny?

Teabag (cat) and I thank you for the warm welcome.
All our products are in tamper evident packaging and then shrink wrapped onto pallets - the problem I have is how I should interpret the BRC Standard when it comes to 'finished product is held under secure transportation conditions'?
Do they mean all trailers should have seals?......but what about curtain sided trailers?......how can I provide evidence to the BRC Auditor that our curtain sided trailers are secure?

I think you're getting too hung up on the tamper evident seals example in the standard, provided you have it written into employee contracts and haulier contracts that they will not knowingly damage or interfere with finished goods this will suffice - extract from our quality manual:
All finished product is bagged and tape sealed in corrugated boxes, before being palletised and stretch wrapped. Pallets are then stored in racking before being despatched to the customer. In this way storage of finished product on site is visible to production supervisors and managers and any breach of packaging due to tampering or sabotage will be immediately evident. All finished products are despatched on approved transportation.

Bit late sorry, but we have an additional clause in the contract with the transport company that vehicles will be not be left unattended unless inside our yard, a secure lorrypark or the customers depot.

thanks for the input - I've read one of our Haulier contracts (a whole 9 pages!) which has plenty of controls for instances of vehicle breakdowns but nothing specific regarding day-to-day security ie the driver must remain with the vehicle at all times......something which I assumed (shame on me)was already written into the contract.

Looks like I've opened a can of worms which is currently being addressed.
