Clause 4.2.2 states that we should do a risk assessment for gases that come into contact with food or packaging.
I am using nitrogen for freezing meat products before slicing. The certificates I get from my supplier is that the purity of the liquid nitrogen is 99%.
Could anyone help with the risk assessment for nitrogen?

Has anyone carried out a risk assessment on gases in contact with food or packaging?

Regards,
Simon

Dear Gunther,

I am sure yr type of query has occurred before within the vast EC or USA, eg with respect to MAP systems.

Links below might be of some interest.

www.food.gov.uk/multimedia/pdfs/consultation/matartwales.pdf

I did look at some of the EC regs. Mentioned in above but was faced with a horrible mass of EC waffle.

There must be a general EC directive on chemicals in contact with food / packaging surely ? For example an update version of something like -
http://europa.eu/rap...&guiLanguage=en

Presumably you "simply" need a supplier document "assuring" "no risk" ?

Kind Regards,
