Dear all;

For the last three weeks I have been updating books and records for my company upcoming audit. This food safety network It's been very helpful. Now, we are a small company in which many of us (employees) are responsible for many tasks. When I encountered the Recall section in our Safety Manual I noticed we are requiered two recalls per year. (we do have them). What I am looking for is a clear difference between:
Recall from ingredient forward
Recall from back trace forward
Recall from Customer back to ingredient
Recall from packed lot back
Recall from packed lot to customer
Recall from pack lot to distributor

Please pardon my ignorancy in some of these topics and any help is truly appreciated.

Thanks,

amb

Maybe this helps?

Recall from ingredient forward - you purchased a batch of an ingredient ...where did it go (into what products)?
Recall from back trace forward - not sure on this one - sorry...
Recall from Customer back to ingredient - Customer X wants to know what all of his product is made of..
Recall from packed lot back - you made a batch of something - trace that lot number back to its ingredients and who sent them.
Recall from packed lot to customer -you made a batch of something - to whom (which customer)did you send it?
Recall from pack lot to distributor - you made a batch of something - to whom (which distributor) did you send it?

You can trace so many different ways. Please keep in mind that a recall exercise should be more than just a trace exercise. Annually you should do something more such as confirming contact numbers for your recall team and even your customers during off hours, checking to see how long it might take you to prepare a news release, confirm your ability to place a large volume on hold or destroy a large volume...
