Dear Miroslav Suska,

This is the intended purpose of the GFSI benchmarking system for FSMS Standards, offers the retailer a pre-defined coverage which is considered (by GFSI) to be (minimum??) satisfactory. I presume there is no maximum, eg ISO 22000-containing options are, I guess, unique in requiring inclusion of OPRPs.

In current practice, the answer to yr post may well depend on where yr "retailer" is, who they are, what they sell etc, etc

Dear Miroslav Suska,

Dear Charles,

Thanks for this. Obviously all GFSI approved standards are very similar (incl. OPRPs in 22000 which just have another names in the other standards) so the question is more if retailers (I used general therm but in my case I am interesting about European ones as Carrefour, Ahold, Delhaize, Tesco, Kaufland, Lidl, Aldi...) will see FSSC22000 certificate as equivalent to BRC or IFS they require at moment.

Kind regards,

Miroslav

Dear Miroslav Suska,

(incl. OPRPs in 22000 which just have another names in the other standards)

Sorry but I don't understand this statement, for example, can you explain where you consider the equivalent of OPRP is referred to in the BRC Standard.?

I think you are asking if the receivers you mention will, in "Europe", accept the FSSC Certificate as an alternative to BRC and IFS.

I'm not currently a user of FSSC 22000 so other people are better qualified to answer for yr named companies. (Strictly you perhaps should specify a particular country since some companies might have a variable policy depending on location, eg UK cf.France. :dunno: )

Obviously all GFSI approved standards are very similar

Well, Yes and No. See this extract from the GFSI FAQ -

iv.

Are the different elements "weighted" in the same manner in each scheme?

The Guidance Document version 5 is used as the core for each audit scheme, and the scheme will not be benchmarked successfully if GFSI cannot find the evidence that they are equivalent to the Guidance Document version 5. Every scheme has different components that appeal to the customer, but all must meet the requirements in the Guidance Document.

I think the above is "politely" stating that customer preferences are to be expected within the GFSI family of approved standards. This is what i was referring to in my previous post.

Other related threads on this forum exist and may also interest you until further replies to yr post appear, eg -

Slightly off-topic but this publication (may 2010) also seemed quite interesting to me - I was not previously aware of the comment below -

10 years Global Food Safety Initiative:
Public versus private standards.
- GFSI accepts only private standards with a standard owner and the option to sanction the standard owner or the standard content. So, ISO standards will not be accepted.

PS I'm sorry if you feel that the various comments regarding GFSI are off-topic however yr original query may "soon" be replaced by something like the general question - Do all receivers in Europe accept any GFSI approved standard.? My personal opinion is never but i hope i am wrong. (Another possibility is "Yes" but only together with their own Standard Audit!)

PPS - one more caveat to yr original query -

Does FSSC 22000 apply to all “players” in the food chain?
The FSSC 22000 scheme is only applicable for those companies who manufacture produts as detailed in the scheme.

attached pdf file(s)below are artefacts / dupes of above ones, a known "boardbug" )

Hi Miroslav,
I hope you are well. My opinion is that there are too many vested interests for any one standard to come out on top. With the UK retailers promoting BRC on the whole and many other European retailers supporting IFS, it seems inconceivable that they would give up this leverage and accept an international standard. I think this is why ISO has never really been able to dominate in the food sector.
Best wishes

I agree Paul; I think the best we can hope for is a suite of standards that are accepted as per GFSI.
