Dear Garry
Whats the difference in pesticide limits (MRL)set by EU for spices and milk.
Regards
Jomy Abraham
WoW!! I think this question should better be asked to the concerned officials of EU & India. EU has not only set the pesticide limits for milk & milk Products, they want the plant to be approved by the competent authority (EIC in this case). The competent authority audits the plant & approves the plant on the basis of food safety based management system. To cut the story short, EU had the following concerns for milk products produced in India:-
1) There is no authentic data/ trend of the residues in the milk & milk products in India i.e. who is collecting the samples, where are these tested etc.
2) Use of banned substances (pesticides & DDT).
3) The test methods used along with the LOD etc. not accepted by the EU.
4) The concern of microbial quality of raw milk (eg:- SPC count of raw milk proposed by EU is 50,000 & you know the Indian standard)
5) The clean milk practices (i.e. the primary milk production) standards is not acceptable.
Further, MRL set by EU for fish can be obtained from EIC (it is very nicely documented & very precise) for spices I have no clue, EIC is a CA for US & Turkey (mainly for black pepper) for other EU countries, I think it is voluntary.
thanks
