Dear Anish,

can you name any Indian milk products being exported to Europe? I'll try to look about them in Danish.. Now, if I search by "milk from India", I can't find anything relevant Posted Image

Dear Inesa

What about milk, milk powder and Indian traditional product "GHEE (99.9% milk fat)" ( butter oil)

If its not banned in Europe, what are the regulatory requirements to export indian milk products

I don't know how relevant it is, but I found a Regulation 605/2010 http://eur-lex.europ...0001:01:EN:HTML

A very painful text but if you go to Annex 1 there stands "List of third countries or parts thereof authorised for the introduction into the European Union of consignments of raw milk and dairy products and indicating the type of heat treatment required for such commodities"

Thanks Inesa.

As far as the net search, there is no ban announced recently for Indian Milk products. I wrote to Europa
to ensure it.

Dear Jomy & Inesa,

Please find the reply I got from Europa. India is not authorised to export raw milk & dairy products... Please refer the reply below.

Dear Ms. Anish Habiba,
We acknowledge the receipt of your enquiry. In answer to your message regarding import requirements for milk products from India, we would like to inform you that the food of animal origin can enter the European Union only from third countries that have fulfilled a set of EU criteria and are therefore approved by the EU. Moreover, imports into the EU are only permitted from approved establishments, for which the national authorities of third countries have submitted guarantees. You can find the General guidance on EU import and transit rules for live animals and animal products from third countries at the following page:
http://ec.europa.eu/...mporting_en.htm

The list of approved countries and approved establishments for export of meat products is regularly updated and made available by the European Commission at the following page:
http://ec.europa.eu/...de/third_en.htm

India is currently not authorised to export raw milk and dairy productsto the EU. In order to obtain this authorisation, a number of procedural steps must be followed. This process has to be initiated by the national authority in the third countries, which must submit a formal request to the European Commission. We would therefore suggest that you contact the national competent authorities of your country.

For further information in this regard we suggest that you contact the Directorate-General (DG) for Health and Consumers of the European Commission at the following address:

http://ec.europa.eu/...ox/index_en.cfm

We hope that this information will be of use to you.

With kind regards,
EUROPE DIRECT Contact Centre

Dear Anish,

Thank you. The case is finaly clarified :smarty:

Best regards
Inesa

p.s. I can't see those pages in EU letter, as login is required. In my previous post where I put a regulation 605, in Anex 1 is a list of third countries who're approved to sell, and if I understood correctly from that list previously, India is not approved to sell milk products.

Dear Anish,

In fact, as per Inesa, all yr links seems to connect to the Arabian Beverage Company ??

I think this discussion is simply another example of what is known as the "Competent Authority" (CA) system for export from "third" countries to the EC, ie the external country appoints a local organisation, typically of government status, to act as the (EC approved) local representative of the EC in respect to assuring relevant local products meet the EC quality / safety requirements. The local CA then inspects / approves companies (via a name / "number") to export to the EC.

From memory, the list of numbers should be accessible on the Europa website directly, it certainly used to be. (probably via the named URL in Anish's post if appropriately utilised  ).

Dear Abdul

Indian govt need to take some actions to get the export approval. Need to strictly monitor anitbiotic residues limits for exports from india. PFA or BIS should specifiy the EU limits as internal criterias of accpetance.....Secondly the availability of segregated cow milk is very less...

Hi Anish,
Just to throw some light, Indian Government has been trying hard for more than 10 years to allow Milk products to be approved for export to EU. Lots of efforts, time & resources have been spent. But milk is a sensitive issue. The cost of milk products from third world countries is fractional than that in EU hence lots of Technical Trade Barriers are in place to safe guard the dairy industry in EU. In a nutshell, among other issues, EU is not yet satisfied with the residue (Pesticides, antibiotics, heavymetals etc.) data provided by India so, where India can export Fish, some spices to EU, milk products is a long haul & I don'nt see it opening in near future
Just to add, the competent authority in India i.e. EIC is approved by the EC.
Thanks

WoW!! I think this question should better be asked to the concerned officials of EU & India. EU has not only set the pesticide limits for milk & milk Products, they want the plant to be approved by the competent authority (EIC in this case). The competent authority audits the plant & approves the plant on the basis of food safety based management system. To cut the story short, EU had the following concerns for milk products produced in India:-
1) There is no authentic data/ trend of the residues in the milk & milk products in India i.e. who is collecting the samples, where are these tested etc.
2) Use of banned substances (pesticides & DDT).
3) The test methods used along with the LOD etc. not accepted by the EU.
4) The concern of microbial quality of raw milk (eg:- SPC count of raw milk proposed by EU is 50,000 & you know the Indian standard)
5) The clean milk practices (i.e. the primary milk production) standards is not acceptable.
Further, MRL set by EU for fish can be obtained from EIC (it is very nicely documented & very precise) for spices I have no clue, EIC is a CA for US & Turkey (mainly for black pepper) for other EU countries, I think it is voluntary.
thanks
