In India is it mandatory to decalre the food additives by the International Numbering System (INS) only or can be declared by name also?
Appreciate your response.
Thanks
Gourav

Provided further that for food additives falling in the respectiveclasses, and appearing in lists of food additives permitted for use in foodsgenerally, the following class titles shall be used together with the specificnames or recognized international numerical identifications:" at page 53(89-90) of file name "The prevent of food Adulteration Act & Rule"

Hi Gourav,

You can contact CFTRI in India and they will be able to guide you further. Most of the developed nations globally uses either INS or name of the additive.

i hope this helps you.

Hi,
Thank you all.
In fact all the gazzette notofication were available on the Minisrty of Health web site a little ago. Since now FSSAI would be governing the food laws in India the section has been moved to FSSAI website and there all of them are not loaded. I did not download all of them and kept on my hard disc; hence the problem.
Nevertheless I was able to speak to authority in FSSAI; it is confirmed now that INS number is mandatory now in India.

Once again thankl you all.

Cheers

Gourav
