In an advertisement by a certifying body to companies (producers) seeking food safety certification, this promise is made: Once your product is certified you are accepted anywhere.” As the producer or product consumer, how do you feel about this promise? Does it give you greater confidence about the certified product? Why or why not?

I think that tagline is from the GFSI marketing.

I think it's a bold claim and maybe if you get certified to a GFSI standard and a potential customer refuses to accept it then maybe you could sue the GFSI.

Seriously I like what the GFSI are attempting to do in harmonizing the major FSMS standards and it is having some success, but it will take a few more years yet.

By the way I answered medium to the 1st poll question based on my comment above and as a consumer I answered no confidence at all to the 2nd poll as I think most consumers (who are not working in the food safety and quality assurance field) will never have heard of GFSI standards and in my opinion they don't really need to.

Regards,
Simon

I agree with Simon, I do like what GFSI is trying to do! The multitude of third party certifiers (in US - predominantly ISO, SQF, AIB, and Silliker) is overwhelming. Some companies even feel the need to certify with more than one or all. I hate to sound jaded, but at times it all seems like a big money trap to make us do what we ought to be doing without the enforcement of outside auditing. ( I know, where the proof without independent certification?)
It would be nice to have one accepted and approved standard that works across the board at both national and international levels!
