Hi there,

I'm currently doing a research on the critical limit of microorganism on food contact surface and clean rooms in RTE factories and pharma factories in the US, India and China. My problem is to find official documents stating the critical limit as, e.g. cfu/ cm^2 and what kind of microarganism are being screened.

Any help will be appreciated.

Many Thank in advance,

HH_Researcher

First of all I'd like to :welcome: you to the IFSQN. I think I'll leave your question for microbiologist members.

Dear HH researcher,

Items below overlap parts of info. in AS NUR’s nice attachment but maybe of some interest.

Overview but quite informative –
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleanroom

Another link which seemed quite useful –
http://www.mssl.ucl....ards.html#iso_s

The books authored by Whyte appear to be popular comprehensive treatises in the genre, latest is prob. published 2010 (cleanroom technology). Viewable on google. Nonetheless, a lot of standards still currently in use seem quite old.

2 more related documents –

Attached File  background iso cleanroom contamination standards.pdf   62.74KB   56 downloads

This, slightly OT, multi-country data comparison of standards was issued 2006 although quoted source in final table is ca 2001.

Attached File  filter standard chart.pdf   90.05KB   49 downloads

and lastly for food people -

Attached File  cleanroom micro. procedure suitable for validation garments for food processing.pdf   51.48KB   55 downloads

Thank you very much to SaniS, AS NUR and Charles.C!

I didn't expect so many replies within such a short time. This forum is just wonderful! Posted Image

Ma questions in regard to the cleanrooms are pretty much resolved, just need a bit of time to go through all the information. Do you guys happen to know whether the standards concerning cleanrooms are also valid/applicable for China and India or just for the EU and the US?

Now, my biggest problem in finding answers is the microbiological standard for food contact surface. I even called the FDA, but the lady on the phone just told me to look up the FD&A Act Food Adulteration. Well, I looked up and I'm as clueless as before as there was nothing specific telling me what is the tolerance, what kind of microbes are screened, etc.

Maybe you guys could help me out there.

Thanks again for your great help and many thanks in advance for further assistance.

Cheers,

HH_Researcher.

Personally, no idea, sorry. Indian / Chinese posters any ideas ?

Yr query as stated above has a giant-sized scope.

There are a multitude of threads here on this topic offering an equally large number of widely different answers, eg try searching for "swab".

Can suggest this one (Feb.2011) as a starter which contains numerous, general, sub-links -

http://www.ifsqn.com...dpost__p__43078

Or, as example of a later, more focussed (hands/S.aureus/Sep.2011) can try this one -

http://www.ifsqn.com...dpost__p__48944

Or, to illustrate some confusions, USA specific (initially anyway  ) -
