I have been looking at food auditing/certification schemes for a client.  They have heard of Salsa which we are looking at if there was anything else.  Is EFSIS still going as I cant seem to find anything available about it.  Does anyone have a link?

My client is a small UK cutting plant that supplies meat to the hospitality sector only.  One of his customers has just asked him for 3rd party accreditation. They also resell some high risk food that is not prepared on site.

Others we've looked at are BRC (too big and complex for this operation) and the Global red meat standard.

Can anyone suggest anything else which may be appropriate?

Ahhh, EFSIS brings back fond memories (my 1st global audit in Russia)... As I remember, they "handled" the BRC audit but there was some fuss about that back in 2001 or so...

Speak wiht SAI Global, I think they still handel it... I think they handle smaller outfits now.

I can confirm we are a Warehouse and Distributor currently using SAI Global to audit us against the EFSIS Standard in Storage and Distribution, so they are definitely still doing it.

For your purposes, I believe it will be the Safe and Legal service link below.

A much cut-down version, but still useful for small businesses is the SOFHT Certification scheme (as you are in the UK):

I have used the scheme, which is based online, with an audit every 3 years, and it is relatively straightforward and low-cost.
