Hello  all,

Is there a competitor to GSFI?  My boss wants to understand the GSFI umbrella.  Is there a different standard out there for example: Universal Safe Food Initiative that encompasses certification bodies like SGS, Silkier, etc.?

I know SQF, BRC and ISO are under the GSFI umbrella, is there another umbrella?

Thank you,

M. Brown

I changed the title from GSFI to GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative).  Thankfully there is no competitor attempting to do what the GFSI are doing and they have the major players on board BRC, SQF, IFS and FSSC, so not much chance of a challenge.

AIB Food Safety Standards are far superior to any Standard approved by GFSI.

If you want something complete, try the AIB Gold Stándard.

Because, they are the only  one who conduct an inspection instead of an audit. They´ll tell you the true: if your plant is really clean or not, if you have pest problems or not etc. No matter how many procedure and records do you have.
Above all, they tell you if your PRP program is strong enough as a base for a HACCP study or you need to keep working on them.
FSSC, BRC, SQF or IFS don´t do that.
Also, it´s the Company which invest more in training  their inspectors/auditores.

Dear Cascabelo,

Thks for yr opinions. it sounds like you are disappointed with the few criticisms received from a very large number of different auditors.

Other, far less generous,  people might think that AIB were incorrect in the apparently numerous NCs they have now reported (were they  ?).
