HI

We are currently in the process of removing all cardboard and paper out of the manufacturing clean room and replacing these with food grade plastic drums.

However we have some Raw Material (Powders)  delivered in paper sacks 25Kg from the suppliers which we need to take in to the clean room to be dispensed and blended.

We can not transfer the raw material from the sacks in to the drums before entering the clean room as there is no room to do this with in the clean room environment.

Any suggestions ?

thanks

john

Hi John,

I think in order to get sound advice you need to provide more information about what goes on in the 'clean room', if the product is further processed and the perceived hazards/controls in place (e.g. foreign body - but the product is filtered/micro - but there is a preservative added or the product is pasteurised).

There are a number of possibles such as getting the supplier to pack in plastic sacks or holding the bag in a plastic tub.

Regards,

Tony

Thanks Tony.

We manufacture raw materials (powder) in to vitamins and supplements. the process is very simple. Powder comes in to a clean room environment, Gets blended i.e multi vitamins then manufactured using tablet\capsule press in to finished product. we only require metal detection however we want to get rid of and cardboard due to particulate's in the air.

It would be difficult to ask the supplier to pack in plastic sacks or drums as they are usually a 3rd party who source from their own suppliers.

There is very little information around for vitamin and supplement manufactures. Its like pharmaceutical don't want us and food don't want us. We feel like the child no one wants =)

thanks in advance

Hi John,

Having paper sacks of raw materials certainly isn't ideal in a 'clean room', until you can find a better solution I would suggest purchasing plastic containers with lids to store the sacks in the clean room.

I believe you are likely to fall under GFSI Scope of Recognition (Benchmarking Category Code) L - Production of (Bio) Chemicals (Additives, Vitamins, Minerals, Bio-cultures, Flavourings, Enzymes and Processing aids) and there are some schemes covering this scope:

Thanks Tony

We are working towards BRC and have most of the work done, we are reasonably small and simple so most of the foundations have been set for BRC, although BRC is vague on vitamin's and supplement's.

But thank you for the advice it is appreciated.

John
