Ok, our reseptionest came to ask me "How special are rabbis to just ignore me that the peson was not able come to walk him in, please have a seat in our waiting area and once she is free, she will come for you"

 

How special are rabbis to ignore our visitor policy and just walk in to an ee's office and wait?

 

Are rabbis able to ignore the visitor policy, can we report them?

 

Are we the only ones having this issue?

 

Just trying to find out if this is normal for anyone else?

Rabbis have to follow GMPs too.  Did you speak to the Rabbi directly?  Sometime explaining why it is important to follow GMPs etc  will work.  If your Rabbi refuses to follow GMPs even after a discussion I guess you can speak to the Rabbinical Council?

If the Rabbi is auditing your facility, I believe that they can just show up, like a governmental agency.  However, yes, they should follow all GMPs and Visitor rules.

Our rabbi does not like to deal with women so will ignore our receptionist (a woman) and will not walk round the factory with me (Food Safety Manager) or my QA Supervisor (both of us female) and chooses only to speak with the factory manager who is male.

 I have encountered this as well.....it drives me crazy!

I would still have a male worker ask him politely, but firmly, to follow GMPs and explain that if there is a breach on a line you can not use the product before making a formalized complaint.  The Rabbinical Counsel  (Counsil? ) who is certifying you as Kosher will have contact information if you must escalate - but most of the time Rabbis are trying to help other Jews find Kosher food, so he will probably co operate.  We allow our Rabbi to wear a little hat under his hair net.

I've already mentioned this in a different "bitch about your Kosher guy" thread, but I feel your pain;  Given the number of women in QA positions, you'd think Rabbis would be used to dealing with women on a daily basis, but no.  Our Rabbi talks to me politely, but will not shake my hand.  He told me that shaking hands was the equivalent of "inviting someone into your bedroom".    I thought "If that's the case, Orthodox are a lot friendlier towards gay lifestyles than I had previously imagined", but I didn't say it.   He shakes the plant manager's hand twice, once for him and once for me. So I guess inviting a married man into your bedroom twice is better than inviting a  woman in once (and sexism is legal as long as you claim it's religion)

Yup- fairly common I think-doesn't make it right though!

 

We  provide food safety training for our local female (presumably because cooking is 'women's work'!!!)) jewish community

 

The lady who organises it is very intelligent and articulate-but she is not allowed to agree to anything without her husband's approval or meet with me without her husband in attendance- or shake her hand-and if she laughs at my jokes we are both in trouble(!)

 

 -on the flip side, although I am  'preferred' to design and organise the training ( presumably because of my inherrent 'male-ness' !) I am of course not allowed to actually deliver the training for the ladies... totally bonkers..!

Hand shaking is not mandatory, but the food safety policy and procedures are.

If a visitor has a special need that causes them not to be able to follow a particular company rule they need to mention it, so that it can be sensible discussed (risk assessed) to determine if/how a compromise can be reached (e.g. wearing a hat under a hairnet) that does not compromise food safety or the food safety culture of the business.

If a visitor breaks a rule because they are not aware of it then that’s the companies fault for not communicating and supervising properly.

If a visitor knowingly breaks a rule then they should be stopped, reminded and if they refuse to comply they should be asked to leave...no matter who they are.

The Rabbi I've dealt with in the last... 3... factories I've worked in (same guy lol) is a nice guy and doesn't walk all over women but he will not shake their hands.  My manager at the last facility just called me when he came into her office and I took care of him.  He's a pretty interesting guy.

The rabbi I most recently dealt with was a complete jerk. I used my unclean gender to my advantage to not deal with him. He would always come into the break room and stir something up with the production floor personnel, covering wildly inappropriate topics. He did a stint in jail for embezzlement and when asked what he learned from the whole experience, he replied with "how to play cards."
