Hello everyone,

I need a fast reply to this post please...

My plant is a little behind the times and a very old facility.  We are a pet food manufacture, and we only have one hand wash sink in our entire facility.  We have many bathrooms, but these are not considered hand wash sinks.

We are looking to install several hand wash sinks at entry points in our facility, but we want to make sure we are compliant to the SQF Code.  Are we able to install hand wash sinks in processing areas, or do they have to be before the processing area?  Are we able to install hand wash sinks in the packaging area?

Let us know..

Thanks in advance for your feedback,

Marvis Brown

Do you already have a barrier hand wash prior to production entry? You could do with one there.  The others then would be additional hand wash stations strategically placed for use during the shift.  You can house them where you like as long as they do not pose a risk to the products.  That's my opinion.

Regards,

Simon

I think the sinks should be placed in a manner that allows for other GMP procedures to occur (hair net, beard net, hand wash, smocks, gloves, glove sanitizing via iodine) (note: maybe not all apply to your situation) and then allow employees to approach their station in processing without re-contaminating their hands like by using a door knob or any other obstruction in between GMP procedures and direct contact with the product and food contact surfaces in general. And like Simon stated, as long as you have appropriate splash guards surrounding the sink so as to prevent contamination It should be fine. It's difficult to say however without further knowledge of; your building design, employee entrances, general "food-flow" in your system...

Hi Marvis,

My guess is the result will be something like the post in this not unrelated  OP -

At least it should convey the "must's and "maybe's"

But the practical details will IMEX invariably depend on the product/process layout

Or perhaps you've done all the above already ?

Kind Regards,
