Hi, I need advice on having Kleenex out on the production floor for Employees to use. Should Kleenex be kept off the production floor and Employees should be directed to blow their nose away from the production floor? Or is this really a low risk as long as Employees are educated and required and trained to wash their hands after sneezing/coughing/blowing their nose?

We do not allow Kleenex on the floor, the risk of accidently falling in to finish goods product is high. We are fortunate enough that we do a mix of food and non-food production, so any operators with infections conditions (i.e. colds) the policy for them is to report to supervisors and get assigned to non-food grade production.

You have to consider your process but as long as you have justifiable procedures in place, the employees are trained on the procedures and the employees follow them then you can have tissues on the floor.  We are a refrigerated process so many times, employee's noses naturally run in adjustment to the cold.  For our process I feel it would be disastrous if we did not have tissues in the production areas. Although please note, we also have a policy that if an employee is sick then he/she is to report to his/her supervisor and then a decision will be made on the job duties for the day.  If it is a common cold or allergies then we have the employees wear a face mask in addition to the normal required PPE; anything more critical to health then he/she may be assigned a different task or sent home until receive a Doctor's release.

company issued blue tissue only here. Sneezing coughing away from production area in to a blue tissue, not over product, equipment or packaging, or the inside of you elbow if can't make in to tissue  in time, and wash hands afterwards.

No kleenex allowed.

Hi Peas&Carrots,

Do you provide the blue tissues? Is it located on the production floor? Is it accompanied by a trash can, specifically for tissues, and sanitizer or hand washing facilities?

I was recommended to set up a "nose blowing station", but trying to figure out the best location and items to be included.

Any other recommendations and advice would be greatly appreciated.
