Looking for best practices regarding Summer weight uniforms and wearing of short sleeve uniforms.  Currently used at our site, however, with move to BRC Packing 5, currently underway. Appreciate feedback from other packaging materials converters regarding their practices.

Hi Robert,

We are a flexible plastic manufacturer for food contact. We also have very high temperatures in our facilities when its summer. So what we did is do a risk assessment for that. In our factory they do wear conti suits with a round neck t shirt underneath provided by the company, so summer months they can only wear the t shirts.

We found that the risk is low for hair from the hands than from the beard and heard. We also working towards BRC certification.

Good luck.

Phil

Phil... in your risk analysis did you inspect the process and the product?

In my opinion, short-sleeve uniforms raise risk of contamination of hair. Be careful when you get audited.

Our employees working in hot areas (warehouse & extrusion room) don't wear different uniforms but they have to send their uniforms for laundry more frequently (3 times a week) than others (twice a week) working in cool zones.

Hope you get the idea.

When I was in packaging manufacturing business we allowed employees to wear short sleeves and it was not included in HACCP study. We never had a problem with it.

But in my opinion it is a should be included in HACCP study. I don't know why we never consider it, and I don't know how come it was never asked. Hair from the arms are a real hazard after all.
