Hello all,

Has anyone considered parameters for washing of working clothing? Are there any recommendations about the temperature and the duration of the washing to provide a microbiological kill step?

If anyone run some tests on this topic, please share the results.

Regards,

Constantine

Hi Constantine,

This topic has been discussed here a few times. Expectations may relate to Location.

IIRC the typical minimum temperature in a (hot) washing machine is, perhaps not surprisingly, ca 70degC but I recall higher figures have been quoted for practical units up to ca. 80degC.

Associated Cycle Times have also been given from memory plus at least one Standard (Germany) had associated micro limits for the washed/dried output.

Unfortunately offhand i don't recall the specific threads. Maybe search "washing machine"

Kind Regards,

Charles.C

Are we talking about employees and the washing of their own clothes or employer supplied clothing/uniforms provided by third party companies?

There certainly are standards for commercial laundries down under. That's possibly the case for most countries. Further to Charles comment for search - try searching this site for Laundries - there are quite a few topics that may help.

60°C wash but the main thing is a hot dry in a tumble drier that's the actual kill step.  Check efficacy by swabbing.

I'm entitled to my opinion, even a stopped clock is right twice a day
