Hi All HELPPP!

So we are in the midst of getting our SQF certification and I am writing a Food Fraud policy using Version 8.  The product that we repackage and blend is Loose Leaf Tea that we get from suppliers.  After research I found out that considering tea is a very low risk product it is a bit vulnerable to food fraud in ways of fillers not really food safety concerns.

Now my question is how detailed do I have to be in this Policy.  Can a simple paragraph stating that:

1. We are aware of Food Fraud

2. We have a Strong Supplier approval program

3.We do have a raw material Quality check before release the product into our facility

4. We do background checks on our employees

Should we spend that extra money to get our teas sent to a lab or is that the responsibility of the Vendor who supplies the tea to us?

Does the policy relate to a finished product at site or the product in general once received?

I just really want to know the steps.  I thank all who can shine some light on this for me and thank for reading all I wrote its a lot lol.

John

The policy should relate to both raw materials/ingredients and finished products. In addition to the points you've listed, it should also address your vulnerability assessment, at least a yearly review/reassessment of your vulnerabilities, and corrective actions.

I am not in the tea industry so I'm not aware of the risks identified with it and if sending periodic samples would be necessary.

Hi John,

Where does the SQF Manufacturing(?) Code say you need a Policy ?

Seems to me you need a Plan like in the Guidance Material.

Kind Regards,
