Hello all,

BRC v7 requirement under section 7.2.1 states that 'watches shall not be worn'. In the interpretation it also specifies that watches are not permitted in open product areas.

Does anybody know if fob silicone watches can be allowed if supported by a risk assessment?

Thank you

Not very familiar with BRC however, the issue is not just the risk of it falling into product, but how clean is the watch and the employees wrist?  You're far better of with snap away stopwatch/clocks that are worn around the neck and kept inside the work clothing............I don't think any auditor under any scheme would allow it. Also, most federal food safety codes state explicitly that jewelry is not allowed

Thank you for your answer.

with "fob silicone watch" I meant the one that usually nurses wear like a brooch.

The aim is having the watch on the inside of their work clothing (PPE) and having it allowed only at work.

Ok, i understand now. Yes, I think that would be fine, however, having it pinned above the waist may pose some difficulty in the risk assessment.....can they pin it at the waist?

Thank you for your answer.

Yes, that would be an option.

Hello Stefano,

The risk of contaminating with FO on your product is high. Watches are loose items. Best is to prohibit all employee, no exception. Everyone will follow.

I suggest that wrist watches should be totally prohibited in any food processing facility - considering that it is a potential source of contamination.  Best way to handle the prohiibtion of watches is -to provide digital wall clocks in the production area and also have a hooter / siren to inform the break time and end of shift times.
