In UK for example (can someone please correct me if I am wrong) at point of writing, I was advised that no organization in UK has yet achieved ISO 22000. Don't get me wrong. Its not a case of qualifications but rather organizations in UK are so comfortable with BRC that there do not see a need to look at ISO 22K. To the CBs, The Consultants and the Food Auditors - there is no urgency to change as business is focused on BRC or IFS and not ISO 22K..............but the difference in opinion (again I was advised) is completely different over on the other side i.e. Denmark, Cyprus, Turkey etc

I split the above from a post Charles Chew made elsewhere on the forums. If you read anything about a company achieving ISO 2000 please post their details here (I'm sure they won't mind the exposure). It will be interesting to gauge the progress of ISO 22000 across different industry sectors and countries.

Regards,
Simon

In the March edition of Packaging Today there was a piece about Panther Plast (Vordinborg) a Danish injection moulder of food and medical packaging who claim to be the first ever ISO 22000 certified packaging company.

For interest 90% of its packaging is for European food producers and the rest for the medical sector. They received their certificate from BVQI Denmark in January. Panther Plast already held ISO 9001:2000, but no mention of HACCP.

Simon

So is that the extent of ISO 22000's penetration, a Danish packaging manufacturer and a German Cheese maker?

Well done SAS  I wonder when will UKAS get their act together and stop playing "nanny" to the big boys CBs and get down to doing their job to ensure that those unaccredited certifications get their due recognition. Its frustrating especially when you have other clients coming through their implementation phases and are getting ready for ISO 22K Audit BUT UKAS is not ready YET. I was also hoping that Simon will use his contact to get us some information on this matter.

Cheers

Another couple:

Danisco's sugar factory in Assens, Denmark, has been certified to the new ISO 22000, one of the first ingredient firms to get the safety approval released in September this year. Henrik Solkær, vice president responsible for sustainable development Danisco Sugar, said: "We constantly strive to improve our safety efforts and we've long been awaiting a global standard covering both food and feed as an alternative to many industry standards. We see it as a clear signal to the world of our stance on food and feed safety."

SGS said in November that it had issued the first ISO 22000 certification to a fish processor in Spain. Danisco's certification came from BVQI Denmark, which said the award was its first. The standard is recognised by more than 40 countries and is applicable to the entire food chain ranging from primary producers over processing businesses (i.e. dairies, meat processors and bakeries) to retailers. It also applies to ingredient, feed, transport and packaging businesses.

M.A. Silva Cortiças, Lda., the exclusive supplier for M.A. Silva Corks, USA, was awarded ISO 22000:2005 food safety certification following official testing December 12 and 13, 2005. It is one of the first companies in the world to be certified with this new standard, and the first cork producer to garner the distinction. ISO 22000 standardizes the requirements for systematically managing safety in food supply chains and offers a unique solution for good practices on a worldwide basis. "As a global player, we welcome ISO 22000:2005 because it provides us with a normative reference that can be recognized and accepted worldwide," said Manuel Silva Sr., founder and president M.A. Silva Cortiças, Lda. "ISO 22000 certification enables us to offer our customers the guarantee that our natural corks are a strong link in the supply chain, and demonstrates the advantages of using a natural product to seal wine bottles."
Established in 2000, M. A. Silva Corks, USA is a collaborative effort between Manuel Silva Sr. of M.A. Silva Cortiças, Lda., and Neil Foster.

Westbury Dairies has successfully attained ISO 22000:2005, the new international standard for food safety management.

"We wanted to attain ISO 22000 certification for a number of external and internal reasons," says Westbury Dairies' Technical Manager, Martyn Allcorn. "Externally, we're a relatively young company, established in 2003, and we saw ISO 22000 as a good way of becoming better known and increasing existing and potential customers' confidence in us. ISO 22000 is widely recognised in our export markets, particularly in EU, Asian and developing countries.

"Within the organisation we saw ISO 22000 as a way of further improving our existing food safety and quality processes, further increasing staff attention to detail and reinforcing our culture of continuous improvement."

Westbury Dairies achieved full compliance, with no non-conformities. It's ISO 22000 certification covers the five years to March 2009. Westbury Dairies is a joint venture between the dairy co-operatives Dairy Farmers of Britain, First Milk and Milk Link.

Westbury dairy factory, located just outside Westbury, Wiltshire, is the largest single-site dairy in the UK and the most technically advanced skimmed milk powder and butter plant in Europe.

Using milk from each co-operative and from around 200 direct-supply farms in southern England, the dairy can process over 2.5 million litres of milk a day. At the height of production it can produce 3kg of skimmed milk powder, 4kg of cream and 2kg of butter every second. The plant employs 120 people and can operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Sold worldwide, the plant's milk powder, cream and butter are used in the production of confectionery, ready meals, cakes, biscuits, ice cream, custard, yoghurt and other foods. Milk powder is also reconstituted into drinking milk, particularly in developing countries.

A column appeared in one of Malaysia's leading paper today containing what appears to be an advertisement that looks very interesting. It is as follows:

ISO 22000 APPRECIATION

Following successful participation in the ISO 22000 UKAS pilot scheme for the globally recognized food safety standard, WORLD CERTIFICATION SERVICES (WCS) is pleased to announce that it is one of the first organizations in the world to be accredited by UKAS to deliver ISO22000 certification services.

WCS wishes to thank the following organizations for their co-operation and support during the pilot scheme, and the period prior to formal UKAS notification being received.

WCS Certification Services (M) Sdn. Bhd, food safety services
Na...……………., food consultants
Ra..…………….., food consultants

Certificated Companies
HAVI …….Sdn. Bhd.
Ste………...Sdn. Bhd.
Go………...Sdn. Bhd.

For further information, please contact B…………on
XXX@world-cert.co.uk or ……………

What I cannot understand is the use of the word 'Certificated' Companies. It appears to me to have come from the pens of some lawyers. I made a check on WCS website - interesting! ISO22000 wasn't listed as a service they provide - only ISO 9000, 14000 and HACCP.

Hi Simon,

It may appear we are slow to claim our rewards, however we need to ensure our clients are happy for us to do so and we have quite a few apart from the ones you mentioned in our offical press releases. We are in the process of certification with several large companies and will keep you posted. Its going well and I feel ISO 22000 is they way forward.
