Hi All,

we are Raw material  producer for the food packaging application. (for example plastic pellets for plastic drinking bottle)

Could you please help advice whether its really necessary we have to apply ISO 22000 certification or just implementation PRP is necessary?

Anyone have the manual or gap analysis for such implementation for this sectors?

Can you describe in more detail these plastic pellets; do they contact the drinking water directly (e.g., they become a primary packaging component?)

What are the process steps after the plastic pellets are molded? Is there a lot of human interaction? How does the packaging water producer use these pellets on there product; are these the plastic closures?

Hi jdpaul,

I suspect the plastic pellets (essentially) are the plastic bottles.

Possibly pellets which have themselves been produced from recycled plastic which is another story. Just like plastic bags.

I anticipate the OP derives from a customer request for an "Approved Supplier" = Leverage.(saptapv?)

I have always found it difficult to work out what operation cannot be certified to ISO22000.

Kind Regards,

Charles.C

I always understood the molding for plastic bottles is usually referred to as a pre-form which are sent out to a company that has the capability for in-line blow molding.

But this may just be another terminology :)

Hi JDpaul & Charlie,

We are the raw material for the plastic bottle. we produced Plastic pellets (or plastic resin)

We are considering whether its really necessary we apply iso 22000 since we have alot of audits from our customer (which is food contact packaging plastic manufacturer)

or with 9001 and higiene practice it will be sufficient for us.

we only supply the plastic pellets or resin for the plastic packaging manufacturer. not involve into their molding process.

That question might be better suited for your customer. Third party certifications tend to be customer-driven.  If they want you to become ISO 220000, then it would be a wise business decision to do so. If they are satisfied with 9001 and specific documented hygiene practices, then it might not be worth the implementation costs just yet unless you anticipate obtaining more customers that would want to see the 22000 cert.
