We are going to start the process of switching from AIB GMP audit to SQF. Is there a document that shows which codes relate to each other? For example (AIB 5.8 is equivalent to SQF 2.4.8, etc)

Thanks in advance

At my current plant we have been SQF Certified for 2, going on 3 years.  This plant was adhering to AIB's Consolidated Standards for years prior and we had to perform our own gap assessment to the SQF Code (then 7.2 v).  We also utilized a formal consulted gap assessment and pre-assessment.  Both of these were valuable to get a better understanding of where we stood against the code.  We then took it upon ourselves to continue the gap assessment and document audit (prior to actual doc audit) internally using the excel sheets provided from SQFI.  These were a big help too.  We did not find any document to correlate the 2 standards, however AIB is a great resource and it might be a good idea to reach out to them and see if there is something out there to assist you in your efforts.

Good luck BTW!

KfromIA,

I have not seen a clause comparison chart for AIB GMP and SQF, as they are two different entities (no sure if there is even one here).

However, IMO, if you are planning to switch to SQF, i would suggest conducting a Gap/Pre-audit assessment internally. Since you are AIB certified, you might already have several things covered.

Have a look at the following audit checklist by SQF and go through the one that applies to your facility:

Based on previous experiences reported on this Forum, you can expect the "transition" to be a non-minor work project.

As noted in Post 4, SQF (and other GFSI-recognised Standards) is a substantially different FS System compared to AIB.

Kind Regards,

Thanks. Looking at the audit checklists, which SQF Fundamentals checklist do I need, the basic or intermediate level. I assume the intermediate level? We are a food manufacturing company (modules 2 and 11)

KfromIA,

IMO, you should look out for the following (it has modules 2 and 11 build-in in the file) and you can start working on each clause as you move forward:

Also go through the following (specially page 2 and 3) as it gives you an idea of the various levels:

Hope this helps.

I used the Edition 8 Checklist in Excel format and went through my AIB procedures to determine which fit where on the SQF list.  It is better if you go through this yourself, I think, because it gives you a good feel for where you are and where your gaps are.  Make sure you look at the desk audit tab of the download, as it will indicate what the auditors will be looking for.

We also hired a consultant to give us a gap assessment.  That was extremely valuable.
