Hi Everyone!

I am new to the site but have been working in food for the past 2 1/2 years. We just completed our 2018 BRC audit and one of the CAR items is related to Monthly Meetings. Unfortunately we combined a couple of months into one meeting earlier in the year and that caused the non-conformity.

I'm just curious if anyone else has provided corrective action for this NC yet? We are not sure exactly what to provide except maybe a statement from our director where senior management signs as a type of "Quality Awareness for Monthly Meetings" that will be followed accordingly moving forward. Maybe even a schedule for the next year?

Does anyone have any advice for this? Thanks.

You could incorporate the review into the daily management meetings - provided they are documented and that you cover off the requirements doing so.

You will be unable to document the missed meetings, so your Corrective Action on this one is how you are going to address it, and then stop this from happening again.

Your options are either

1. Evidence how you are passing the instruction on to the team that the meetings will be mandatory and monthly, such as a brief or memo.

2. Increase the frequency of the review to be incorporated into the daily meetings so that the review can't be missed.

I would definitely include food safety as a topic in the site monthly management meetings (along with details of site NCFs & supplier NCFs, plus costs of these, where applicable).

As BRC 8 has strengthened this requirement in the revised standard  it will benefit your management team to be regularly exposed to details of food safety (instead of the erroneous assumption "well, that's quality's job!").

Often a corrective action for a food safety issue requires several business functions & this demonstrates that the correct functions are aware of an issue.

Also any actions arising from the management meeting can be monitored month to month & completion documented so you can show improvements & actions as necessary.

Thanks Leslie and BigGaz but I don't think I was very clear in my original Post. The non-conformity for BRC Clause 1.1.4 was related to frequency rather than content.

We are a small facility so we do not have daily meetings. It's just not necessary with such a small team. The Food Safety and other content covered in my monthly meetings is strong so the NC was only related to combining two months into one month of review.

Gaz - Your point should work  "1. Evidence how you are passing the instruction on to the team that the meetings will be mandatory and monthly, such as a brief or memo."

I am thinking of using your idea for evidence above but it would have to come from my director of the company in Europe to me, since I lead the site and I am the one whom combined the meetings.

You could show a recurring calendar entry for the quality meetings I suppose.

I'm entitled to my opinion, even a stopped clock is right twice a day
