Hi Sum

The basic start

1. Appoint a food safety team

2. Establish Pre-Requisite Programmes (PRPs). (including but not limited to hand hygiene, medical screening, cleaning & sanitation activities,  pest control etc.)

3. establish work instructions / procedures / charts / posters (whatever feasible) and start maintaining PRP monitoring and verification records on continual basis.

Dear Sum,

There are also a few topics to be clarified and to be thought about within the project team and your organisation around the question: "Why will you implement ISO 22000?". Here below is what I mean:

  • Is it to fulfill a customer requirement?
  • Is it to open new markets?
  • What are the objectives of implementing the system? Is it just to have a certificate or do you want the benefits from using a Quality & Food safety management system?
  • Will you let the system work for you?

In addition to what's been mentioned above, you can participate in some trainings and visit one or more ISO 22000 certified companies, to understand more about the system.

Kind regards,

Gerard Heerkens

Do you already have an implemented quality management system (ISO 9001?)

Also, if there is a customer requirement for a GFSI recognized scheme you will need both 22000 and 220002-1 (pre-reqs) which completes the FSSC 22000 Food Safety Management System; GFSI benchmarked.
